Hi. I have had two sessions of Caelyx for Ovarian CA and on to my third next week. I have been having terrible stomach and back pains and now I feel like a hot match going down my throat everytime I swallow. I am not hungry at all and have lost a lot of weight. Has anyone experienced these symptoms. regards. Maria

Hi Maria I have just done 2 carbo/ caelyx I have really bad backache too I also had the burning in my throat, my onc prescribed omerperazole and a antibotic for mouth thrush, which has cleared it up but like you I have no real appetite and have lost weight too.

Have you a CNS you can speak too, or maybe call Gp just to reassure yourself. Like Vonny1960 says could easily be dealt with as you shouldn't have to deal with horrid side effects.

Hi Maria - I've just had my 3rd caelyx; this one on a dose reduction due to side effects. Didn't have the back pains but was plagued with burning pains and swallowing was as you say - a hot match! Turned out I had thrush in the throat so I'd probably advise give your unit a ring and ram the nystatin and fluconazole in! I know have 2 weeks worth which has helped.

Hi Maria, I experienced the burning throat thing too and it really sucks! I can't add much to the good advice above, except that I found it helped to avoid scratchy food like toast, also spicy food and hot drinks, as these seemed to aggravate it. Hi Maria , after my first carbo/caelyx I had tummy pains like pulled muscles and back aches don't know if yours is similar ? I am also on ozemprazole for calming integestion . I had my second dose today am wondering if side effects will be the same , when I mentioned it to oncologist she didn't seem concerned , I will take almost anything as long as it works .
