Cold cap

Starting my chemo quite soon. There is a cold cap available for use which I understand may prevent hair loss.

Has anyone used the cap, feedback would be appreciated.

Hi

I used the cold cap over 17 weeks, i was on weekly treatment. I kept about 50% of my hair. It felt very cold at first but I soon got used to it, give it ago and just keep thinking positive. I wish you well with your treatment, please feel free to keep in touch with me if you should need any more information xx

Hi just got home from third is session with cold cap, so far so good. It is very cold at first but you soon get used to it. It does make you very cold so wrap up warm and take a blanket to wrap round you. Good luck. Jill

I used the cold cap while doing a course of weekly taxol. I did not lose my hair and I found the cap perfectly bearable after the first few minutes

I dont have any experience of using the cold cap but just want to wish you well in your treatment.

My oncologist did not recommend it as he feared rogue cells could be missed

hello, What chemo drugs are you having? I used the cold cap when I had taxol the first time round but I lost all the hair in top of my head however I had long very thick hair. I think if your hair is short you stand much more chance of keeping it. I wish you well. Lovis

Hi I used it for all my 12 taxol treatments, had carbo seprately and this doesnt usually cause hair loss. Kept enough of my hair to look normal , did thin alot on top, but not so youd notice if i did a bit of a comb over . Have long hair, so pleased able to keep length, would takes ages to grow back, some new hair has grown back on my crown so looks like a little tufty mop on top, but slick it down. Secret to it working is make hair wet through ( comb with conditioner ) and make sure cap tight and touching all your scalp as if doesnt , will loose some hair where its not making contact. Need to find right sized cap and jam it on tight - not terribly comfortably but beareable. The first 15 m ache a bit then just goes numb and cold. As others say snuggle up with a blanket ! It only cuts down rhe blood supply to your scalp skin / hair follicles, which have a completely different blood supply to the brain and rest of your head so no worry of increasing risks of brain recurrence - thats a myth.

Good luck, us UK woman are lucky , women in USA have to rent the caps and take them with them . Please ask if anything else would help - go for it ! X
