Electrical pulse abdominal toning belts

Just wondering if anyone out there had used an abdominal toning belt prior to their diagnosis? My wife was using one regularly in the year up to being diagnosed, and not ticking any of the other risk factor boxes and being BRCA negative, I just wonder whether it was possible that the electric pulses may have kicked something off. I'm not aware of any research in this area so I guess there's no link but I thought I'd ask just in case.

I'd be interested to know anyone's views on possible causes.

Never heard of anything related to electric pulses and cancer; though I doubt that has been looked at. I read an article recently (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/2... that out of the sample they tested only 13% had a brca mutation. Also, if I am remembering correctly, brca is more common with papillary serous tumors than other epithelial subtypes.

Hi, Thanks for your response. I think you are right that there hasn't been any research which is why I thought it would be interesting to pose the question - you never know what might get turned up. I believe you are correct that one in eight instances are BRCA related, and I understand that these are predominantly high grade cases.

Thanks. I guess there are many triggers but I wondered whether electric charge could be a contributory factor in some cases. I hope you are doing well. Best wishes.

Hi Paul, I would have used toning machines many years prior to diagnosis but my team never asked this question nor did I think that it would be connected. Since diagnosis, two first cousins have had breast cancer and one had pancreatic cancer on my maternal side. So yes I do need to sort out that test. It is one of the things on my for my oncologist when I see him but always forget to mention because you are aware you are infringing on time.

I did use one way back in the late nineties but it didn't occur to me that it could be a contributory factor. I also had three sessions of IVF treatment prior to the birth of my twins and also HRT which I personally feel had more to do with my cancer. I didn't use the belt for very long though. Best wishes. similarly I had lots of IVF and it seemed to me I might get ovarian cancer but went in with my eyes wide open. No really proven link but my onc. thinks it is probably connected.

Didn't stop me being misdiagnosed though...anyone who has had IVF especially on several occasions be vigilant... Chris x

There is a recognised link between infertility and OVCA so it may be that is causal rather than the IVF itself. We were just embarking on first round when mine was discovered and then that I had extensive endometriosis (no symptoms). There is also some indication that endometriosis can be linked.... Sx
