Good Morning everyone. Happy New Year to you all. I wanted to update you all on my journey. I am a 65 year old woman, diagnosed this past June. After seeing my GP, an endocrinologist and a orthopedic dr. I have decided to try the monthly med. So far I have had 1 dose and other than a few days of aches, I have been ok. The orthopedic dr. recommended pt as my posture was starting to curve. I love being shown what I need to do to strengthen my core and deal with my poor posture which I knew I felt like I was getting crooked. I fought the med route and still have doubts but I really like this orthopedic Dr. and feel I would like to give it a shot. Anyone else on the monthly med? How has your experience been?

What is the monthly med? Evenity?

I'm not on anything, still, but was prescribed, then denied, Evenity, so I know that's monthly. Just curious. Glad you're feeling good about PT. I'm getting curvy too, have seen a PT three times, twice in the pool--boy, is that hard work, but it does feel really good. (The very warm water, that is.) "Neutral posture" is now definitely counterintuitive, painful, but it's gotta be done. At 62, I've seen/felt a rapid decline; now my back will hurt even walking, unless I use trekking poles, which I do, as much as possible. Must. Get. Stronger.

Keep at it and good luck to you!

Hi. It's called Risedronate. I have only had 1 dose so far. Someone here recommended a video that really helped me see the benefits I taking meds. Just not sure ifcthis is the right one yet. I have felt crooked for a while and same thing with pain when walking. I learned my bad posture is just that. A habit I need to break. My pt thinks I have been that way for quite a while. Good luck to you on your quest to improve your health. It is hard work, and many days I am sore but I feel so much better that I can do something about it.

I guess you did name the drug in your subject, but I'm not familiar with it so ot just went by me. Wasn't aware of any other monthly drug except Evenity. I hope it does work for you.

Yes, I feel like I'm going to have to work harder, be stronger literally, now than ever in my life. Maybe osteoporosis is no big deal if you manage to not fracture, but if you do, it seems it's rarely a one and done kind of situation, and that IS a big deal. Guess that's why they push drugs to "reduce fracture risk". :-/

I don’t feel that PROLIA (my only drug so far) accomplishes the ‘reducing fracture’. This drug makes bones dense & denser to the point that our bones are not stronger but being denser actually makes them more susceptible to fracture. I’m not a fan anymore. I’ll take 3 yearly Reclast infusions, then hopefully stop all meds.

Best to you.

Are you on monthly Actonel (called Risedronate in the UK)? I didn't realise it was available as a monthly dose. I took it daily for a year (also available weekly), but stopped due to too many side effects, not least my IBS got much worse.

I am on Risedronate and so far have only taken 1 dose. I live in the US.
