Margie Bissinger is a PT specializing in osteoporosis. She's also a 'happiness coach'. You might look at her website/podcasts. There's research on the effect of emotions (things like stress, anxiety, depression) on bone health and it's something she's discussed.
The Desiderata is a long one, but a good one. I have it hanging on the wall so I can often refer to it for a bit of wisdom or how to deal with a situation.
Desiderata - Words for Life
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
— Max Ehrmann, 1927
Isaiah 58:11New King James Version11 The Lord will guide you continually,And satisfy your soul in drought,And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden,And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
“the Universe supports me in loving and unexpected ways”, from Louise Hay.
A grateful heart and mind keeps us positive and puts a smile on our faces. I find thanking God for his gifts, love, faithfulness, matters. I ask for healing, strength, muscles that keep growing and less spasms. In all the pain, lack of sleep, frustrations, side effects from treatments...being grateful for each day is vital to our mental health as well as physical health.
It was great to see all these encouraging messages! I find these scriptures particularly encouraging and hope they bless you and all those reading it:
"For who is God except the Lord?
Who but our God is a solid rock?
God arms me with strength; He has made my way safe.
He makes me surefooted as a deer, leading me safely along the mountain heights.
You have given me the shield of your salvation.
Your right hand supports me; Your gentleness has made me great.
You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.
You have armed me with strength for the battle.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!"
(Psalm 19:31-33, 35-36,39; Psalm 118:1) (NLT translation)
A helpful Proverb is:
"A cheerful (joyful) heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."
Proverbs 17:22
It is so lovely to read all of these encouraging, spiritual resources. It reminds us all to treat ourselves wholistically.
I subscribe to Richard Rohr's Daily Meditations from the Centre for Action and Contemplation; It starts my day off and leads into a time of prayer and meditation, a calm mind is a good thing!
Having experienced a major family tragedy last August when I had been on 3mgs a day for PMR, I then shot back up to 15mgs a day and now I am slowly attemting to taper back down from 9 mgs.
Don't underestimate the power of stress people and what it can do to those of us coping with PMR.
let us laugh more, be of merry heart,
mourn our griefs (to the Lord),
heal, acknowledge losses,
connect with the Lord our Maker,
be content and relaxed,
forgive and be forgiven.
(God forgives)
i'm only learning this now, just wanting us to be in health by these ancient writings of wisdom, which link physical health to spiritual roots.
