Risindronate and HIP PAIN!!!!
Hip pain was one of the reasons I stopped AA after four months of ever increasing misery. I had so many side effects - I felt so ill, the only thing I didn’t have was gut problems which I thought were the most likely thing to happen - eventually when I started having worrying pain in my hip I decided enough was enough and I stopped the alendronic acid - sure enough the tiredness, the sinus, ear, tooth, jaw and hip pain all stopped and my head felt clear again. As you say - do the research.
You wrote “Do the research and u will also see it is a known fact that this drug can cause hip and groin pain which eventuallly will cause hip FRACTURE!!” Can you provide a link bank to the research that supports your claim that the hip and groin pain eventually causes hip fractures?
I’m aware of research showing that bisphosphonates can cause pain in bones. Am also aware that long term use of bisphosphonates cause led to atypical fractures. But why do you think the pain you were experiencing is directly related to the potential for a fracture?

Dang. I tend to have body pains. They generally don’t last long and I sort of justify them away because doctors don’t seem to have any concern/answers. I have never taken risendronate but I did take alendronate for 1.5 yrs and had a zoledronic acid infusion in November 2021.
Hope more people are aware of thes pains being an indication of a possible impending fracture—I certainly was not, and I try to keep up. Doctors really need to do a better job understanding the meds they prescribe and educating patients.
I’m having the same problem, hip and groin pain. I only started Fosamax 6 weeks ago and I’m supposed to take it this morning. It’s so hard to know if it is really the drug which is the issue. I would appreciate hearing from others who stopped and what happened to them.
Thank you so much
When I took alendronate, I noticed what I called bone pain. After 1.5 yrs, I stopped taking alendronate because it was causing digestive tract issues. After a 4 month holiday, I had a zoledronic acid infusion in November 2021. I didn’t experience the bone aches w/ the infusion as I had with the alendronate. After stopping the alendronate and having the zoledronic acid infusion, I started doing my own research on osteoporosis (should have done this when first diagnosed w/ osteoporosis but I’d already been seeing my endocrinologist for 3 yrs for my hypothyroidism so I trusted he was giving me good advice—big mistake). My research led me to make several changes to my diet including my calcium supplements and I think there is a chance that my bone pain/body aches have stopped/declined because I now make sure to give my body small doses of calcium throughout the day—after doing my own research I decided to start taking a calcium supplement right before going to sleep at night—I would drink a glass of milk before bed if I could but that would cause me to wake up several times to go to the restroom and I think a solid night’s sleep is more important than my overnight calcium source.
I was on Risedronic acid for about 3 1/2 years. I never had a problem with it but my Dr wanted to change it to Prolia and assured me there were no contraindications. After my own research, I decided I wouldn’t go on it. I stopped all medication about 9 months and I’m hoping that I’ll have no problems from having been on the Risedronic
I would never go on a medication that lasts 6 months or more my body is way too sensitive plus i have hypothyroidism. I am not allergic to anything BUT highly sensitive to everything! Glad i did not do the infusion, i was only on the OP medication (risindronate 35mg)/1 per wk. for 2 months and for 2 months i have had hip and groin pain, 5 days later my hip pain is not as severe. I stretch every day too hoping as time goes by i will have less and less hip & groin issues.
