Hello, I am new to this forum and recently diagnosed with osteoporosis in forearm scan, osteopenia in spine scans. My doctor recommended I try this OsteoStrong gym with machines specifically to increase bone density. It is expensive, but I am trying it, only 10 minutes total, four machines, once per week.
Does anyone here or does anyone here know of anyone with success in reversing osteoporosis using this OsteoStrong system?
Never heard of it before, Apparently it has been taken seriously enough that they are looking it into a possible way to maintain bone strength in astronauts but there doesn't seem to be any properly conducted clinical research. I must say I have mixed feelings about your doctor's recommendation. Great that s/he is not automatically going to drugs, but a bit odd that you are being recommended a relatively untested treatment which costs a lot of money.
Have you been given any other advice, e.g. regarding other forms of exercise and nutrition including supplements?
Please be very careful at Osteostrong. I tried it and eventually caused myself fractures by being 'encouraged' to push my body too hard on the machines and fractured. If you search on OsteoStrong there are other replies and others have had injuries there . Do research on them thoroughly. Take care.
Totally jealous. If there were an OsteoStrong w/i 100 miles of my home, I would join. Unfortunately, the closest one is over 4 hours away so there is no way to day-trip it weekly.
I discovered OsteoStrong earlier this year when I started researching natural ways to reverse bone loss. The thing that made me think their claims are true is a video on their website about thyroid conditions. In the video the founder basically says that he if after 1 yr, a members BMD hasn’t improved, something else medical is going on and they send these folks back to their doctors and the doctors are then finding thyroid and parathyroid issues.
In April, I was in a city with an OsteoStrong and I took them up on their one free visit offer—I told them upfront that I would have to move to join and I wouldn’t be making this decision for at least a year, and they were cool and still let me come to check out the facility. When I was there, they wanted me to use a WBV (whole body vibration) platform for about 10 minutes before using the 4 pieces of Osteogenic loading equipment. If they are asking you to use the WBV, I recommend not using it. WBV isn’t really good for anyone and can cause detached retinas. If you are interested in learning more about this look up Dr. Rubin Marodyne LIV (low intensity vibration). Just do the 4 osteogenic loading machines.
When I asked my endocrinologist if he was familiar with OsteoStrong, he’d never heard of it. When I explained to him what is was and how they used osteogenic loading equipment to help build bones, my endocrinologist said he had looked into purchasing a piece of osteogenic loading equipment but it was really expensive. My endocrinologist believes osteogenic loading can potentially work to improve bones.
I wish you a success at OsteoStrong and please, please, please keep the healthunlocked community informed w/ your progress. I know you are just starting but if you can remember to post your DEXA scores next year and let us know if your numbers have improved after using OsteoStrong that would be awesome.
I am doing osteoporosis strong and love it … I go slow and listen to my body …. Many other benefits to the program … there is conclusive testing just look for it !! They also have the vibration plate which is very effective for bones Plus they emphasis balance … one size does not fit all in bone growth
One size doesn't fit all. Everyone has a different Dexa scan. I don't go to OsteoStrong because I have a lost a lot of bone strength and my friend's doctor said it is just a gimmick
tell that to the Dr that prescribed meds …. Gimmick …? Research is available ? We can only do what feels right for us …. The medical profession has let women down in so many ways Ill try my hand on the gimmick … smiles
OsteoStrong uses a WBV (whole body vibration) plate and I highly recommend avoiding that. Their osteogenic loading equipment is great, but WBV isn't really good for anyone and can lead to detached retinas. If you want to try vibration therapy, look up Dr. Rubin Marodyne LiV (low intensity vibration) - the reseach behind the Marodyne LiV platform was funded by NASA. It's my understanding that the only reason the Marodyne LiV platform doesn't have FDA approval is because they haven't run any trials/reseach to prove that it prevents fractures but they have plenty of research showing that using the Marodyne LiV platform can increase BMD, which in my mind is good enough, meaning as long as you are increasing your BMD without the use of Strontium mostly likely the increase in BMD is going to decrease your risk of fracture. But also note, there was an article in the BJM that basically said that the biggest difference between who fractures and who doesn't isn't who has osteoporosis, but who falls. The #1 thing you can do to prevent fractures is work on your balance.
