Vitamin K-2 for Bone Health

I did not realize there were different forms of Vitamin K. I was doing some research and this is what I found. The two most important forms of Vitamin K-2 are MK-4 and MK-7. MK-4 has a short half life, only about 4 hours. This means half of it is eliminated from your body in 4 hours. MK-7 has a much longer half-life of around 3 days, so it stays in your system longer and is much better absorbed. All forms of vtamin K disolve best in fat because it is fat soluable. Best to take with a meal that has some fat to maximize absorption.

Be aware that Mk-7 can cause palpitations in some people. I take Mk-4 for that reason.

Thanks. Good to know. Just wondering how what dose of Mk-4 you take? I was taking 100 mcg Mk-4. I just ordered 100 mcg of the Mk-7 to try.

Currently I have a liquid vitamin D3 and K2 Mk-4 combo. The K is 100mcg. I've also had the Life Extension K2 Mk-4 that's 45,000 mcg. That's the amount used in a study in Japan and shown to be superior but I doubt we need that much regularly. Some have written about this in the past. Maybe you could do a search of the topic and find those posts.

100mcg K2-Mk4 is likely to be wasting your money. The measure for MK4 needs to be in mg (1mg = 1000mcg), with many recommending 45mg daily (as per Japanese prescriptions), which is 45,000mcg. 100mcg K2-MK7 on the other hand is within the Australian recommended range of 90-180mcg daily for MK7.

Good to know. I plan on taking the 100 mcg of Vitamin K2 Mk-7. I did not realize you needed such a high dose of Vitamin K Mk-4. I think I will also take the Vitamin K-2 Mk-4 100 mcg along with it, since I already have that. It can't hurt.
