Hi, I am new here, diagnosed with OP 15 years ago and treat it naturally with supplements and exercise.

I have been treating my Osteoporosis naturally for the past 15 years. I just had my DEXA scan which showed an increase in bone mineral density in the Lumbar Spine. However I have a question regarding the Femoral Neck T score results: My last score was -2; the newest score is -1.6. I interpreted this as an improvement however the MD who wrote the report stated that the bone mineral density has DECREASED in the hip. I think this may be an error or am I confused?

If your score has changed from -2 to -1.6, that's definitely an increase in bone mineral density! Well done for doing all that with just supplements and exercise. Can I ask exactly what exercise you do and what supplements you take? Would you be happy to tell us your age too?

You say that your Femoral Neck was -1.6 this time, then go on to say you doctor says your Hip bone density has decreased. Usually a DEXA report includes a measurement for the Femoral Neck and for the Total Hip as well, so maybe the first has increased and the second gotten lower? I hope not too much lower. Like Met00, I'd love to hear what exercises and supplements you've been taking; also, your age. Also, was your scan done on the same machine as last time? Thank you for sharing your story.

Based on your numbers you no longer have osteoporosis, you have osteopenia. Congrats!Would you please share more details on how exactly you were able to reverse your osteoporosis, what specific exercises did you do (weight amounts and frequency), if you are using any special equipment, such as the Marodyne LiV platform, what specific supplements you take, etc. Thank you.

I see from your Bio that you had a secondary issue, hyperparathyroidism, which was addressed with surgery. This likely contributed some to your reversal. But lucky you! May your number continue to improve and hold!

Hello all, yes, I had hyperparathyroidism with an adenoma that was removed about 7 years ago. I would have assumed that would have accounted the improvement, however two DEXA scans post the surgery my scores actually remained the same or were even worse. (Same place, same machine). I am a retired RN and honestly will not take any of the current medications after researching them unless my bones were so fragile that I had to choose between the lesser of 2 evils so to speak. I decided to really focus on following some of the natural recommendations I had been reading about. OK so I take calcium citrate, vitamin D, magnesium, super K complex, (have been taking Vit C, folic acid, zinc and selenium) anyway for years prior. What have I done differently this last 2 years was to add collagen (I use marine collagen because I don't eat meat). For exercise I love to walk and ride my bike (adult trike). I also bought a vibration plate on Amazon. I wish I could say I used it every day but it was really a few times a week for 15 min. I am 76 years old and I am very active, gardening and take my dogs to the dog park, etc. I have fallen a couple of times but I suppose I was very lucky. I did have a wrist fracture several years ago when I lost my balance stepping off the curb while walking my dog at night during a stressful time when my late husband was dying of cancer. Lumbar spine T score went from -3 to -2.6. Femoral neck T score went from -2.0 to -1.6. Femoral neck Total T score was also -1.6. I was very happy to see even a small improvement but I don't know why the report said "decreased bone mineral density." I suspect it was an error.

I just began adding collagen peptides to my routine after reading the 2018 and 2021 research. I hope to see improvement on my next dexiscan.

Thanks for sharing your story. I am encouraged by your improvements! My lumbar spine is -3.1 and I'm hoping to try to improve it without OP medications. I think you are correct in thinking that the report saying "decreased bone mineral density" was an error. By the numbers you shared, your bones have increased in density. Congratulations!

Hello and welcome. Perhaps you should discuss your concern with your rheumatologist or other treating physician to understand this difference between the t score improvement and the medical documentation that there is a decrease of mineral bone density in your hip. This may not be an error nor inconsistent. With your medical background, I would be questioning the report as well, as I recently had a similar situation about the tip of my lumbar spine in my DEXA appearing inconsistent with the overall positive news everywhere else. My clinical rheumatologist for the last seven years is a teaching professor in the nearby university medical school and explained why the DEXA was correct and its impact upon my care. We decided together that the addition of a medication now was an appropriate path for my bone care. I wish you continued success in your health and thorough explanation by the physicians regarding your DEXA report.😀
