What to consider if you're considering a 'natural' approach

Hi everyone,

Many of you are interested in pursuing alternative or complementary approaches to your bone health, such as supplements and devices. Here's a helpful resource from the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health that lays out some things to consider as you make your health plan.

One thing we see often on this forum is people being unsatisfied with advice from their health care providers and choosing to go a different route. We -- and the NCCIH -- recommend keeping your provider informed about these different approaches so they can coordinate and ensure your safety.

Here's another key takeaway:

"NCCIH advises against using any product or practice that has not been proven safe and effective as a substitute for conventional medical treatment or as a reason to postpone seeing your health care provider about any health problem. In some instances, stopping—or not starting—conventional treatment can have serious consequences. Before making a decision not to use a proven conventional treatment, talk to your health care providers."
