Doc who put me on Prolia with disastrous results recommended Reclast. Scares me to death. Trying to learn more.

Me too. Did some research and even went to the Reclast website and read patient reviews. Awful for some people. The thing that scares me the most is; if it disagrees with you (makes you ill) you're stuck with it as it does not dissipate over time. And, it can cause neurosis of the jaw. Told my Dr. I wouldn't do it. Looking for alternative but not Prolia or any of the oral ones. They're not much better. Cancer of the oesophagus?? No thanks!

All great advice for someone who has not had fractures.

Before I had these fractures I was doing serious weight training with a good coach. And I used a weighted vest as well, And I’ve always had (and still do have) a highly mineralized diet, mainly plant-based. But now that I’m dealing with these fractures, a weighted vest could do further damage.

Unfortunately when Prolia is stopped (as mine was because of a medical clerical error) your bones can revert to a very bad state, making fractures most likely. So now I’m in a different place than I was before the fractures occurred.

My biggest mistake? Starting Prolia when I did so soon after it came onmarket before all the bad stuff emerged!

Yesterday was my first GENERIC Reclast infusion. I checked with my dentist first to see if he was anticipating any dental work being needed or if he had any reasons for me not to have Reclast. He did not. Agreed with my rhemotologist that the odds of any jaw bone loss were extremely low. Two of my sisters are on Prolia for several years now without issues.

In the UK, we are automatically offered Alendronate, which I took for 3 months. But due to bone pain I was changed to risedronate. I took one tablet and complained to my GP. My rheumatologist took over my treatment and started me on Reclast (Aclasta, Zolodrenate) I've had two infusions. Had no problems with the first, but the second caused 5 days of aches in my hips and thighs. As I have Osteoarthritis in my hips, and 4 spinal fractures, I can only walk with support.

Has your MD offered to have your fractures reinforced before they collapse? Believe that might help if they haven't occured too long ago and have not already collapsed. It's a simple procedure in outpatient surgery by injecting a fluid medical composite around the fracture, then it hardens like a permanent cast to prevent collapse and pain. It worked well for me several years ago, then was put on Forteo.

I use Prolia but I have a friend who gets the Reclast infusion once per year to protect her bones because she takes meds to keep her cancer in remission. She reports no side effects. Portia on the other hand is a shot given every 6 months.

I have a friend who takes a recast infusion every year with no side effects.

Which type of Reclast infusion does she receive? Does she stay overnight?

Don't know what type...is there a type? No, she does not stay overnight.

Hello, everyone! Here is an article from the American Bone Health site on a study from two years ago that compared Reclast to a bisphosphonate drug. The study notes some people can absorb the infusion better than oral drugs. We hope this helps! americanbonehealth.org/medi...

Will have a Reclast infusion in May as maintenance following good results from2 years on Forteo. There is Reclast and since 2017 a different pharmaceutical company introduced GENERICReclast, which is much less expensive. My physician is a teaching professor at our medical school and the infusion he is recommending as it is one 15iu infusion a year. I reviewed the results and possible jawbone loss. He estimated how many thousands of women he has treated for osteopenia and osteoporosis and none had the serious side effects that must be listed. So I am trying to be optimistic.

Having the GenericReclast infusion tomorrow in the outpatient infusion center at the largest teaching hospital in the area. Usually a blood test tocomfirm properkidney function is done at the infusion center before starting the infusion. Won't need that as my MD did a complete panel blood test in March. I will get one of these infusion a year. But will take up most of the day due to the heavy traffic; the procedure may be as long as 3-4 hours. Still trusting this. There were a number of scary and misinformed replies regarding Fortea (Forsteo), particularly from our sisters in GB.....but none were true. My bone density increased by 12% by year one of my small in home daily injections; by end of year two the 12% was still maintained in the areas where I needed it. The top expected is only one point higher at 13%.

My rheumatologist is a teaching professor at the area's medical school; when he recommended several available maintenance approaches (can't take Forteo more than about 2 years) I asked him which one would he recommend for his wife, mother or aunt. Answered: Reclast.

I had none of the scary side effects some people mentioned regarding Forteo; I got the best results instead. As this doctor did not hesitate and would recommend Reclast if his wife or mom need a maintenance med plan and he said Reclast, I trust him. (He didn't mention his aunt. lol) Know the POSSIBLE but highly unlikely side effects. Not worried. Will let you know how things go tomorrow. Never had an infusion previously of any type.

Reporting about my GENERICReclast infusion today. (Huge difference in cost between Reclast and GENERICReclast.) Piece of cake. Took about 3 hours from the time I arrived at the infusion center until I was home. Blood drawn for blood test to verify that kidneys working ok. Results fine, so the GenericReclast was added to the saline solution and finished in an hour. Not painful, sitting in an overstuffed type of chair; brought a book to read, but the procedure went quickly and the next 10 patients were waiting for me to give up my chair. So I got the hint , called Lyft and went home with band aid on hand and elastic one around my arm. This infusin is good for one year. So will see in a year if it maintained byimprovement by using Forteo for last two years. So just wanted you to know how this medical form of infusion to maintain my improvement from Forteo was like. Piece of cake.

Thank you. It's 24 hours since the infusion and I'm fine. None of possible aching or spasms the medical staff said might happen last night. Read your post again about Reclast and it really does make sense to me now.

I have found that the best way to treat your bone and make them strong like iron is by weight training , its a must to get bone stronger - have you tried the NYK weight vest it is so easy and strengthens the entire body as you walk or do any exercise even doing housework. Healthy diet is also good for the bones plus the wt vest will strengthen bone in short time .

Hi ! I have not but I know women who have used it , they were not happy with it as it has some side effects that are not desirable

Why not try the nykweightvest see online and try a solid bone strengthening diet too , put vest on and start walking each day you will see great improvment as this vest is made for women with osteoporosis and it works.

also see youtube vid called pearls with Janice - this lady janice wrote a testamonial on how she turns her osteoporosis around with a vest and healthy diet also. check it out

can we put link? nykweightvest.com and see pearls with janice on youtube under osteoporosis very good.

good luck
