Ughhhhhh, it's back!

Hi

I am at present waiting for a hip replacement.....I have severe osteoarthritis. I have fibromyalgia and gerd/Gord.

Anyway, a couple months ago, I had a real bad flare of the Gord. I couldn't sleep, eat etc etc. Went to the doctors who told me to double my omeprazol and also take gaviscon advance when needed (which was all the time). She also sent me for an endoscopy as I hadn't had one for a few years. I've had that and apart from a couple of nodules, everything was the same... I have a sliding hiatus hernia which I knew about. He took some biopsies from the noduleswan but that came out clear. After about a week or so, everything calmed down and I went back on to my usual dose of omeprazol.

Then, two nights ago, it all came back. I felt like from the waist up, I was on fire! My neck, jaw and ears were so painful. I'm only sleeping on and off cause I can't lay flat, however, I haven't been sleeping well for months because of my hip.

I'm really worried that this is something else..... perhaps coming from my stomach???? Does anyone else have bad flare ups with Gord????

Just feeling very low at the moment......feels as if it isn't one thing, it's another.

Hope you are all as well as can be

Judi

Having had a fairly recent endoscopy it is probable that that examination would have found anything serious and longstanding, but something mst have triggered off this latest bout.

It might be some reaction to medication, for instance (reducing the Omeprazole that can create a bounce effect for a couple of weeks or so) or it might be related to your hiatus hernia.

It might be that you have to try and take more Gaviscon to cope with this to see whether it is temporary because some of this medication takes time to show its real effect. Otherwise you should return to your doctor and discuss whether there is an alternative medication that would help. In the longer term it would be best to control the reflux as that in itself can become a health risk, and it might be the case that it would be prudent to consider a surgical solution to your hiatus hernia.

I can quite understand the problem of sleeping propped up when you have hip trouble. People do experiment with pillows under the mattress, or bricks under the bed head and various pillows, but you do of course need to be comfortable.

Thanks for your reply Alan.

I will have a chat with my doctor about a possible change of meds, I've only ever taken omeprazol and it has worked well up till now. The only other change of meds I've had recently is I now wear a butrans patch 15mcg.........don't know whether this would effect anything.

I do indeed have lots of pillow on my bed, all strategically placed, plus a v pillow for when I have to sit up to sleep.

I do try my best to control the reflux.......there are so many things I cannot eat or drink....I have a very bland, boring diet.

Thanks again

Judi
