Hi Scottie

Perhaps a soft neck collar, similar to one used for whiplash after a car accident my give some support, even so you will need to exercise it. I am affraid the sickness is par for the course; I lost nearly six stone because of sickness after the op and it's a question of trial and error with what you can tolerate, for example I could not drink milk for at least 18 months.

It will get better but it is a long road,

Sometimes it is really difficult to get rid of the aching neck. Do you have to keep your head raised because of suffering from reflux? There are times when it is really difficult to get into any kind of position that is comfortable, but how you sleep might be one of the most important things. Many people find that having a bed that is adjustable (like a shallow W in profile) is good because it keeps your head higher than your stomach (helps with reflux), and stops you slipping down the bed.

Then think about some physiotherapy / massage. Gentle exercise does help, even though you may not feel like it.

The feeling of sickness might be the after-effects of surgery. Ask the specialist nurse for a start. Sometimes the stomach does not clear very well, and there are things that might be done to clear that (eg stretching the pylorus sphincter at the bottom of the stomach, if that is indeed what the problem is). Be careful about eating little and often, and keep a food diary to try and work out whether it is ALL food that makes you sick, or just some foods.

There are medications that do help with the nausea.

There is a format for a food diary - click here: opa.org.uk/pages/factsheets...

If you have continuing problems with food / diet, try some of the information on the website, like low glycemic-index food click here: opa.org.uk/regional-shop/lo...

And do ask the surgeons / specialist nurse for their advice. The surgery and other treatment is meant to cure you, and to give you a reasonable quality of life afterwards, and it is not doing that at the moment. So you are right to back to them so that things can be adjusted. They do not want you to suffer like this.

Hi I still get sickness now and again, (it's been six years since the op, but now I can keep a glass or two of wine down, you will get better I know that for a fact, chin up and all that, even now after all this time if I have a problem, I can still ring my Nurse at the Hospital.(if I was a few years younger)
