I can empathise. I had my IL procedure 12 years ago. Dumping has been with me ever since but with varying degrees of frequency and intensity. I fear that it is the price one pays for a life saving but intensely invasive and radical surgery. Sorry my experience does not offer a brighter prognosis. Good luck.Fortunatus

Dumping
sorry to hear that you are still experiencing Dumping. I am 5 1/2 years post esophagectomy and I believe I have only experienced what I believe is dumping, maybe 5 times/days since my surgery.
Fortunately I am able to eat and drink with my meals and have not really had what I am sure is a tough post surgery lifestyle I also do not experience the fluctuations in my blood sugars
I am able to eat just about anything I want, in somewhat smaller quantities, but typically eating 3 meals a day. I have also been able to maintain a healthy weight over the last three years
Everyone seems to have somewhat different experiences post surgery . I count myself very lucky to first surviving this tough cancer and to then be able to live a pretty normal existence afterward.
you are very lucky indeed, we are very different in outcome. I’m 16 years post op and just about recent years my dumping is getting milder. I had severe dumping since day one. However I’m glad I can eat and live a new normal but adjusted life.
I’m with you on this one , I am 10 years post IL and dumping hits me like a train, I’ve tried to track it by tracking what I eat and drink, but I can’t pin point it. But as you say, a small price to pay to be alive. Popsic
Posic is right. petercaron probably an outlier. But the common ground is that we are all alive to tell the tale.
4.5 years post and I am the same
yep 13 years on and Dumping is a normal part of everyday life. But I'm still here xx
On reflection I am not sure what purpose petercaron had in telling us about his happy no dumping experience. It certainly didn't cheer me up
I survived septic shock after surgery was scarey but 13 years on still around.Wish I knew what brings on ds as I get it about once a month.Eating late at night ha always been a problem for me.I guess one good thing that happened to me after surgery is I got rid of a lot of unhealthy weight.Today I'm 511 204 lbs.
Didn't quite work out the weight loss formula! I also would love to know what triggers the ds - maybe nothing - that is to say it's now just part of us because of the changes to the organism brought about by the surgery. Anyway we seem destined, unlike a few lucky ones, to having to live with the bloody thing. Let us wish each other good luck and realise that we're 'fortunate' to be here.
