going on 5 years post op. Have had ct scan every 6 months 3 years and yearly after. Several endoscopy’s as I had gastroporesis and beazors but things have settled down and am gaining weight and eating more without problems. Still on Pantoprazole for reflux. But overall I’m alive at 70 and still doing lots even though I don’t have my stamina or strength I used to have. My lungs were collapsed to move my diaphragm up so that is part of the stamina.

Well done you seem like a real battler and those kind of people tend to do well . An enlightening story . Your family must be proud

congratulations

You seem to be on a very similar path as me. I just celebrated my 5 year anniversary of my esophagectomy. I also had 2 pet scans the first year at 6 and 12 months and then Cat Scans every 6 months until 5 year anniversary. My oncologist wants one more Cat scan on my 6 th anniversary.

I have had about 3-4 stretches of my esophagus to help with my reflux that now seems to be under control after finding sleeping in a recliner was the magic bullet for reflux. I also take Pantoprazole religiously.

I also don’t have the stamina I did before the surgery, but I am living a pretty good life. I can eat just about any type of food, even spicy food and I don’t get heartburn or have bouts of dumping.

I can’t complain as this disease is often so difficult to diagnose early enough.

Well done Racerick. :)

I will be 5 years on from the diagnosis and in coming February from the oesophagectomy. I am 44 yrs now.

Thanks for sharing your inspiring update and hope you continue sharing your journey with this forum.

very well done and congratulations on reaching the 5 ear milestone. I would be very pleased to know how you are putting on weight. I’m finding it very difficult 18 months post op. Good luck with the next 5 years you have obviously cracked it! X

I eat as much red meat as I can. But mostly elk, bison, and venison. As I hunt and they don’t have the additives that big box meats have. I also buy beef from a local rancher with no additives.

I have just started putting on weight at 3 years post op. I have noted less dumping, and ability to eat a bit more at a time. I was exercising a lot during Covid lockdown period to regain stamina but of course that uses calories - if I do less I feel the gains . Of course I now am habitually eating high calorie foods which I always used to avoid before Cancer. It’s a journey. Good luck on yours but don’t give up.

ps I don’t eat any meat. Apart from ethical reasons it’s difficult to swallow…..
