Gastroscopy/ Throat spray/Medazolam sedative

I had this procedure done yesterday for the second time in 3 months. First time a nurse sprayed my throat once which was fine, but yesterday a doc must have sprayed it about half a dozen times which burned and made my throat feel like it was tightening. Has anyone else had this effect?

Also had sedation and today the dizziness and tiredness is unbelievable, along with weakness in both legs.

Also the day after my first gastroscopy, I had a seizure and this is worrying me that it could happen again.

You are I think in GB., I’m in the U.S. I have had upper and lower GI’s, maybe 6 or more. I have achalasia, and have had surgery for it. I’ve never had the experience you describe. Have you ever had a seizure before? If not, my first suspicion would be medication. Maybe even the spray the doctor was so generous with. I would have a serious talk with him about the throat issue and the seizure as well. To me the worst part is the 2 day fasting!

Hi yes im in the UK. I have had 2 seizures previously, starting in January 2021. Feel better today, i think it may have been down to the sedation taking longer to wear off. Throat is also better but felt scary at the time. Over here we dont have anything to eat or drink for 6 hours before the procedure. I couldnt handle 2 days without food. Even 6 hours is too long!!

Normally with the upper and lower GI it is 24 hours fast, and meds to flush you out. With achalasia it seems to be 48 hrs.

I am in GB . Exactly same as you but no seizure. I would get this checked out . It at least needs to be on your GP record .

I think the seizure was my own fault as i had forgot to take some meds in the days before. Feel better today tho. Midazolam sedative took longer to wear off.

I feel that weird burning spray is so unique that it does take some getting used to . I had surgery in 2018 for hiatus hernia but before that I had loads of tests for about 18 months - sort of an endurance test . I had this procedure twice and feel my lead up exploring was really overdone as operation although took about 5 hours was seemingly quite simple . I had a sore throat for days after the spray and whatever else they put down you whilst asleep so had mainly liquid smoothies and soft cold food . Within 4/5 days I was OK.
