Hi Deigo - I’m afraid the cough is common problem after oesophagectomy - especially when eating or sleeping - I’m 6.5yrs on and still have the cough - you were best to get it checked out though - you learn to live with it - all the very best
Hi DeigoI have to agree with Molly, I am 12 years post op and still cough when eating. I have had it checked out with no reason found. I was advised to drink water with my food but I find I can eat or drink not both. Hopefully yours will settle down
Hi ..I have developed a cough too 22 months ,it’s really been worrying me as it’s coming up to 2 years, when I was told that after 2 years the risk of it returning is considerably lower..I am currently waiting (maybe today) for results of an X-ray 2 weeks ago..I’m hoping it the after affects of covid..🤞🏻 Good luck and I will follow this post ..it’s a constant worry, but I believe it’s a common problem after out operation
I am 18 months post IL for stage 3 and developed a cough when eating about 3 months ago. Same as you nothing shows up on tests. Just something I need to get used to.
Hi again..funnily enough I just got my X-ray results..and no sign of anything..no action required, which is one hell of relief..but going to get a call back Sunday regarding the cough..by the looks it’s goin to be ongoing ,but I can cope with that .hope maybe this helps you ,that this is a common problem..but in the grand scheme of things 🤷🏻♂️😊
Yes, I'm 9 years post Ivor Lewis op and cough when eating too. Seems worse with bread or if I eat too quickly! It's just something we have to live with. Always good to get checked regularly though for peace of mind. Angi xx
Hi. I'm 22 months post op. I also get a cough occasionally after eating, but I find I get two different kinds of cough - a phlegmy cough if I eat too much, and an irritated/burning cough if I have acid reflux. The first kind I think is harmless and can be avoided just by eating smaller amounts. The second kind I think should be taken more seriously, because persistent acid reflux is something we should be trying to avoid, especially at night. If that it the case with you, I would suggest adjusting diet and eating times and maybe taking something like Gaviscon in addition to whatever your doctor is giving you.
