Hi Von66

I started taking a daily Probiotic at the same time as I altered my diet.

The combination has made a significant difference to my well-being.

The main reason we in this ‘IL Club’ suffer is weight loss. We are told, post op, to eat the foods that allows us to increase our weight. Regrettably, however, those foods often have an adverse effect on us, dumping etc etc.

I continued eating chocolate, cream and many other high fat foods but I saw no improvement whatsoever.

During a consultation about continued weight loss, Probiotics were mentioned, in particular ‘Bio-Kult’ which I take one with food every day. In addition I follow a low GI diet (wherever possible)

My weight has gradually improved, albeit slowly and, more importantly, very rarely do I have to search for a loo!

I consulted a private dietician a few months after my surgery and was advised to take high strength probiotics and avoid dairy products. Interestingly, a few years later I attended a lecture by Dr. Preston, a gastroenterologist from the London Hospital, organised by the OPA, and he suggested the same thing. It's impossible to say to what extent the probiotics helped with my recovery, but they certainly did no harm and my digestive system did recover well. Like MFH28, I also avoided the high fat foods that we are told to eat to increase weight and followed a low GI diet. My weight never did recover, but I remain fit and healthy.

I did for over a year. Certainly didn’t hurt but not sure if it helped much either. Surgeon was keen for me to take so I did. I also took a pre-biotic which may have helped too.

I regained all my weight. I always ate low fat, high protein and was told to mix that up and ensure a good quantity of high fat foods were consumed even at the expense of reduced protein. It worked for me.

I use to take probiotics but quit and went back to the yogurt which seems to be better for me. Activia is the brand I eat.

I use probitic in between, should top up good gut bacteria every now and then.

For bloating and related gastric retentions etc this may be of help.

In worst case with the IL survivors the fluid may just pass through by dumping or not being absorbed.

It has helped my wife suffering from long covid to stop dairy and by taking probitioc daily. Which helped her gut issues for sure.

Weight gain, weight loss, and weight sustenance are progressive ageing process related concerns. And require to be considered on the age bracket on case by case basis.
