Hi Stocky, there's no need to be afraid of the tests, but if you're nervous do have the sedation you'll be offered, then you won't remember any thing. I've had the "down" test lots of times, and the "up" test quite recently, and I'm vegi too. With the "up" test I was aware of what they were doing, but it didn't hurt at all. I was so woozey I was only interested in telling the Doc all about my latest grandchild and she politely pretended to listen. I could hear myself talking rubbish but couldn't stop!

With the "down" test my sedation has always been much stronger. The last time, I remember seeing the Doc walk away, and I asked the nurse when he was going to do it, and was told it was all done, and finished.

If it's the results you're worried about, I was told 9 out of 10 people have nothing wrong, and if they do find something, it might not be cancer, but whatever it is, the sooner it's treated the better.

Good luck!.

Hi patchworker, thanks so much for your reply you have calmed me down a lot...

I have had this done over ten years ago and fought so much (unaware ) they told me they could not continue with the tests.

I rang the hospital today but the nurse did not reasure me at all which made me feel worse.

Thank you again and I wish you well.

Hi Stocky, Sorry you had a.bad experience years ago. I suppose it must depend on the Doc. But no wonder you're nervous. Surely it's very unlikely you'll get the same Doc again, and if you do, surely he must have learned something in the last ten years!

I must have been lucky, I've had dozens of endoscopies without a problem. Let me know how it goes.

Hi Stocky

Like you I also didn't have a very nice experience when I had the camera down my throat, all I was given was this totally useless spray. But I am not nervous about having it done again because I told my GP that if I ever had to have it done again then they would have to knock me out or at the very least give me a really strong sedative like Patchworker had. At the end of the day it is your body don't be bullied into anything. I often wonder if the people who wield these devices have ever suffered the same discomfort or assault on their dignity. As Patchworker said the up test is nowhere near the discomfort, maybe a tad embarrassing but hey we are all the same and its always better to get things checked out.

Kind Regards

Steve

My daughter had this done and we all thought it was the same as me and would result in all the problems I have had but no.... she was diagnosed as wheat intolerant! No problems now with heartburn!

Thanks so much for your reply, I also suffer from Ireggular Heartbeat and that in its self is a worry because I was told to stop my medication five days prior to the tests.

I had the throat one without sedation & was a bit nervous but the nurse helped me through it . You count your breathing & then it's fine.

Sedation every time! You won't remember a thing, so it feels like a GA but you come round quickly. Good luck. Love Angi xx

I've had the down test twice and it was absolutely fine - I was sedated. I was extremely nervous the first time. Apparently I was fully conscious all the way through, but I remember nothing past lying on the treatment bed. I was sleepy the rest of the day, but not sore in any way. If I had to have it done again, I'd not be worried at all - I get far more worried about going to the dentist. Best wishes to you and I hope all goes well.

Thank you very much Louise, I think I have just myself in a state because I suffer from Irregular Heatbeat. Also the thought that you are going to choke.

I too am afraid of the Dentist. lol
