Yes, had final chest drain out today and loads of walking with physios, I feel so much better than I thought I would . Hopefully home in the next couple of days

It’s nice to get all the wires out..suppose you have to keep jej line for now..I was in intensive care for 10,days,..but such a relief to get home...the only thing is,that they kept me in till 4 while they sorted my meds ..I’d been up and waiting since 6 am ...😂and I believe this is true for most hospitals..so just a warning..anyway sounds like you well on the way..so happy for ya ..keep that positive vibe 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Deeedals in reply totelford-hiker

They couldn’t get a Jej line in so I’ve had no Jej feeding just liquids then started puréed food orally from yesterday and tolerating small amounts quite well . Looks like I’ll be home before soon though.

Only used mine twice..hated it,and couldn’t wait to get it out ..so a bonus I think 👏🏻

Great to hear you are feeling good. Don't overdo it when you get home - listen to your body and if you have any dumping have a hot water ready! Eat little and often. Best wishes x

Janashlin profile image
Janashlin in reply tochampagnelover

Can I please ask what you mean about the hot water? I have been having bad dumping lately. What do you do with the hot water to help?

champagnelover profile image
champagnelover in reply toJanashlin

That should say hot water bottle. I find that if I have a dumping episode if I put a hot water bottle on my tummy the heat helps to stop the pain. The heat seems to relax my stomach muscles. It was recommended by a doctor when I experienced my very first dumping episode. (12 years ago) I know it has worked for others on here too.

Alternately, place a warm wheat bag across tummy 👍🏼

Thanks I’m 10 days post op and came home yesterday. I’m tolerating liquid/soft diet really well. They weren’t able to get a Jej tube in place for some reason so I went straight onto oral diet. Lucky me I think ! How’s your bloated tummy feeling, is it any better ?

hunsdon profile image
hunsdon in reply toDeeedals

Remember little and often and do not lay on your left side , bulk your pillows up better still get yourself a wedge type pillow it helps big time , still have it I am sure it’s todo with reflux and that horrible yellow bile and it seems to be happening later down the line as I also don’t remember my boating tummy staying so long , I am hoping to get to see a doctor at the hospital later in the year and hopefully get some answers or some stronger meds .

So glad to hear you're home and doing well. Take it easy while you get to know your new 'plumbing' and remember, it can change a lot as time goes by. Your 'stomach' capacity will increase, as will your tolerance for foods that you cannot manage right now. The human body is a wonderful thing and our capacity for healing is remarkable. Get lots of rest and let your body do its work.
