Gastroparesis Nightmare

I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis and the surgeon who did my esophagectomy would also perform my pyloromyotomy. I got a 2nd opinion first to confirm I did have Gastroparesis and I did. On 12/11 the Dr. performed the surgery and I was sent home the same day with liquid diet restrictions although my research said I’d stay in the hospital between 1-3 days after surgery. Saturday after eating and early dinner of lentil soup, the excruciating pain began. I was rushed to the ER and the ct scan kept reading normal. Long story short, Dr. went back in with a camera on Tuesday only to discover that he actually perforated my stomach causing bile and acid to leak out. I’m still in the hospital trying to recover but it’s been an extremely slow process. Be careful and always question your doctors because they’re human and make mistakes too.

Very sorry to hear this. You must be so upset and rightly so. I do hope you recover quickly now the issue has been found and hopefully sorted out. It makes us scared to trust medics. Hope things improve speedily for you now and you can enjoy Christmas such as it will be for all of us.

Sorry to hear the news. So glad your surgeon was able to find the leak and have it repaired. You can conquer this setback!

Oh dear. What a miserable story. As if our "journey" isn't bad enough. Still these things do happen. At least you are safe now.

Interestingly I also have gastroparesis too but my surgical team (who have been great) were reluctant to offer a pyloromyotomy as they thought the risks after oesophagectomy were too high (as you can tell by the spelling I am in the UK). Now I have heard your story I don't think I will be pushing for one. Thank you for sharing.
