Bad heartburn and chest pain continually after partial fundiplication, 10 days after surgery. I cannot even drink anything without the bubbles/acid burps coming up. I can’t sleep through the night the last 2 nights and swallowing my own spit at this point causes issues.
Had my follow up and Dr says it’s all a part of the healing process. Please someone tell me there is a light at the end of this tunnel and it is just part of the healing process, as at this point I am wishing I didn’t get the surgery. However I had a small hiatal hernia that had to be repaired.

Please keep pushing your medics again if this continuing. I have been told i cant have a fundop due to my slow gastric motility. Gastric pain is awful i feel for you. Please insist you get looked at again. You have my sympathy. Good luck.
Is slow gastric motility the same thing as esophagus motility being slow? I know they said that the healing would take longer for me due to this, as I have a weak esophagus and it needs more time to heal. Let me know what your Drs say. I am trying to get an appointment with my Gastro again to look at it to make sure everything is healing and good, as I can’t take the surgery back now sadly.
I have slow motility throughout my gastric system from oesophagus through stomach and bowel too. Its not great. I just manage as best I can with medication as surgery is not an option ie a fundoplication. I have been told it would ruin me and make matters even worse. Happy days.
I had a successful Nissan op in Jan 2018 and never looked back . Given strict liquid diet initially with many restrictions like no onion , tomato etc . Bought a nutrabullet liquidiser and followed . Slowly weaned to mushy foods - not easy . Joined PARIS rehab scheme -referral from GP . This is a rigid recovery but it enabled me to lose weight , get fit and gain confidence. I was 58 when I had it .
How long did your recovery take? I am having trouble with water and fluids. How long were you on fluids….I am the opposite and am having a hard time keeping weight on and staying hydrated. How long we’re you on a liquid diet? And then mushy foods? Etc. timeline
Recovery gradually improved as I kept to the programme and guidance sheet given before I left hospital. Mine was about 4.5 hours surgery but due even then to bed shortages I was refused my planned overnight stay ( NHS ) and sent home same day with strict instructions including various foods to cut out . Liquid food for 2weeks then soft soup , rice pudding etc . The weight dropped off me . About 2 weeks later slow intro to solids but took a while to accept meat unless very soft and bread so even now I am cautious . About 6 weeks then slowly back to a fairly manual job as a full time Nursery nurse but min lifting . 3 months after saw consultant and already felt better . My worst was the first few days on heavy painkillers which I ditched after a couple of days as the 5 puncture wounds from surgery didn’t pull as much . No removal of stitches just large plasters which I was given supply of to redress myself .10 weeks after surgery I applied for the PARIS rehab scheme via my GP . This and keeping to better unprocessed 3 meals a day now -about 1500 cals a day has transformed my life .
