Confused about Barrett's 'disappearance'!?

Had a god awful gastroscopy yesterday and was very surprised that the nurse failed to find the 1cm Barrett's Oesophagus and dyplasia I was diagnosed with 6 years ago ( a sample was taken on that occasion and sent to the lab for testing ).

Are there any recorded instances of Barrett's disappearing? I've never heard of any.

I'm very sceptical about the competence of the endo nurse who carried out the procedure yesterday. No biopsy was taken which I am pretty livid about considering the horrible experience I had and concerns about a possible allergic reaction to the throat spray were completely disregarded.

I was told after my endoscopy that there was no trace of either my hiatus hernia or Barrett’s. Like you I was sceptical but when the results of the biopsies came back they told me I did have Barrett’s. With the hiatus hernia I have a sliding one and obviously it had slid back in whilst I had the endoscopy. Wait until the results of the biopsies and it may be a different story.

Thanks for the reply. Well that's just it, she didn't bother taking any samples and took it upon herself to remove me from the cancer pathway. Now I'll have to chase it up with the previous ( excellent ) hospital and trawl through my GP records. Her arrogance was astounding.

They should have taken biopsies to make sure there are no cancer cells. Definitely go back and see the Consultant again. Good luck xx
