Burping. Belching pocket of air uncomfortable

It’s been 7 months since my operation to replace my oesophogus with my colon, I have had a couple of dilutions. I have persistent issue with pockets of air, so belches really but it feels like it’s trapped in my throat. Not sure a dilation will help anyone else suffer with this or something similar?

I have had a similar problem. Ivor Lewis 2 years ago, difficulty swallowing and loads of trapped air in my chest. I found that taking fizzy drinks helped me to burp and I learned to make myself burp, can't explain how, just practice and hopefully you will be able to as well.

Good luck, just another hurdle we all have to face, it does get better, dilations do help. I think I have had 4.

Hi I have this still and also find fizzy drink, just a few sips helps. Or lift your arms up above your head, or if it really doesn’t shift get someone to pat your back like you wind a baby. I find it difficult to burp, but I did before the op too. Good luck xx

Have you tried drinking a hot drink before you eat. For example I have a hot tea.

I have tried fizzy drinks, & warm, I will try the arms but as I think sometimes it could be my posture. One of these or combination of all may just do the trick.

Thanks guys.

Yes I have this. It’s uncomfortable! It gets worse as the day goes on and can stop me sleeping. I have developed a bad habit of eating soft mints to alleviate it. I’m not sure if it’s the mint or the chewing which helps. But I really need to cut down as it’s too much sugar and I won’t have any teeth left! I think it’s quite a common side effect

Tried a few things all with different degrees of success

1) Peppermint oil tablets at regular intervals. I find I know when this is going to happen

2) Rennies or equivlent often give quick relief followed by a series of belching

3) Standing or changing posture or just jiggling about

4) Hot drink (if you can get it down) - sometimes the gas might hold up the liquid

5) Arms above your head/exercise. I was advised wriggling on the floor but for me that doesn't work

6) Avoid eating red meats and acidic products

Allow the belching to cease, rest, drink a hot drink before eating/drinking again

Hope that helps
