I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer 3 months ago and am starting treatment of chemo in the next 2 weeks before a big operation to remove part of my esophagus . Since being diagnosed I have had a CT scan , pet scan and a laparoscopy to check for any spread to other parts of my body ..my tumor has grown since 3 months ago and I now have had to get an ng tube inserted ..I'm in constant pain in my throat due tonthe tube and was wondering if any other person has had this tube and if they can suggest anything to ease the pain as its getting me down ....

Hi Hammyboy,

I guess you mean a nasogastric tube? I had it after surgerys of throat cancer. The first time I removed it myself due to pain, the second time I asked straight after surgery to have it removed. I can't tolerate it, since my nasal septum is narrowed.

Do ask about alternatives, tube into stomach or small intestines.

All the best, Monika

Told I can't get any other tube due to getting an operation to remove part of my esophagus after my chemo

Hi sorry to hear that. Have you spoke to hospital about it maybe there is a spray or something that would help with the pain or an alternative tube to feed you. I didn’t have any tubes until after op. Hopefully the tumour will start shrinking when you start chemo and it will get easier. I had a jej feed after op which feeds you into the jejostomy and a tube out of nose to drain.

Best of Luck

Debbie

Hi my hubby didn’t need the tube prior to surgery but he did struggle with eating 2 weeks after starting chemo his tumour had shrunk enough for him to eat anything so maybe once you start chemo you may be able to eat more and they can remove the tube till after surgery. Good luck with everything keep fighting xx
