When I used to get leg cramps at night I would take quinine pills until they took them off the market. Now the cramps are back much worse and there’s nothing to help.
I don’t know if tonic water is going to work The products on the market can’t be very good because doctors don’t recommend them

Hi there. Just read your post and thought I’d share what helped me. Magnesium oil has been a god send, if you’re magnesium deficient it can feel a little itchy and tingly to begin with. The more you use it the less it will react. I rubbed it into my legs morning and night and within a couple of days the leg cramps stopped. It’s fantastic stuff and very good for you. I got mine from Holland & Barrett (if you’re in the UK).
I had very bad cramps when I was prescribed Seretide and my doc prescribed quinine tablets for me, they caused very bad headaches so I'm no longer taking either. Normally, I seldom get cramp but when I have had it I've found massaging with magnesium lotion, or oil soon gets rid of it.
This is an issue for me also. I take a daily dose of Magnesium oil (4/5 squirts on my skin in the morning) but still suffer on occasions. I would be interested to know how much you use and when and where you apply it. The main area for me is the lower leg rather than a specific muscle but it can also occur in my thigh.
I used to apply it to my feet, ankles, calves and thigh, about six squirts in total - for each leg. I used it at bedtime and still keep some in the bedside drawer 'just in case' though I've only used it a couple of times since stopping the Seretide. Try changing to a bedtime application, it might work better for you.
Hi there. I had a quick look online and advice says it’s caused by depletion of minerals and dehydration Eating a diet rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium, avoid or limit alcohol, drink plenty of fluids and build up your exercise gradually (to avoid dehydration I assume). Good old fashioned bitter lemon with quinnine May help too?! ☺️ Good luck. Cramp is awful. Dawn xx
