Tightness in gut after eating.

Hi all, my husband, one year post Ivor Lewis, experiences a tightness in his gut after eating. Has been, since January, on a one week in 4 cycle of Rifaximin antibiotic due to a positive glucose hydrogen methane breath test, which appears to be helping his ability to tolerate certain foods. Still no weight gain. We were hoping the post food tightness would be improving by now. Any one with any knowledge/advice please share. Thanx !

Hi there, I am 2.5 months post IL oesophagectomy. Lately I have started feeling tighter in stomach after eating food. On top the cut section on torso is painting upon movement. Sorry that my post is Not answer to your question. I was thinking the anastomosis will be healing and hence the pains when stomach being stretched.

Hello there,

It sounds like you are suffering from SIBO and the antibiotics should hopefully sort that out. Sometimes it takes more than one course of antib's before you eradicate the unwanted bacteria.

Sorry I should say SIBO is small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Bacteria which normally reside deeper in the digestive system migrate further up the digestive tract and system and cause a lot of bloating and discomfort. With me it created mega amounts of gas - both ends!

It took me over a year to get rid of it.

I am two and a half years post Ivor Lewis and I still get that same tightness in the gut after eating, I have just had to get used to it.

The procedures we have undergone really do send the digestive system into free fall and we all vary in our reactions and symptoms.

What I would say is try not to worry too much about these particular symptoms I have had them for a long time and they don't seem to get any worse although it is uncomfortable.

My upper GI specialist prescribed Domperidon three times a day to try to relax the workings and buscopal two tablets three times a day. They do help, and could possibly help you as well.

Good luck with it all, long road ahead

Best wishes

Richard
