Thinking of you Louis .Of course you're scared . You will have the best of care . This time tomorrow you'll be wrapped up in a gentle drug cloud ,awake ,able to talk but not anxious or in pain .

You will have some days when you don't feel great ,ups and downs but you will recover .I was up and about when I got home ,7 days after op .Visiting elderly mother for a couple of hours a day the following week . Not doing much else .

One day at a time .Boring but doable .Come back to us when you feel able .

x and hugs

Hi hopefully by the time you read this you will be on the rd to recovery. They get you up as soon as possible even with all the tubes etc attached. Everyone is different. Staples come out about 10 to 14 days after op. It is a slow recovery you have to get used to you new eating regime like being weaned and your plumbing!!

Good Luck

Debbie

Hope you are doing well my brother had this op Dec 16 and he is now back to full health but it was a slow process and he got frustrated that he didn't feel better for quite a while. He did get quite low in mood which he found hard as everyone expected him to feel amazing as his cancer treatment was curative but with support from us his family and the GP and hospital team he got through it. He found it hard to admit but finally agreed to antidepressants and these have really helped.

Now he can't believe he is back doing activities he thought he'd never manage again DIY hedge cutting etc

The main thing that takes time to adjust to is how you eat and swallowing is different he's still learning now 9mths on

You have yrs of eating a certain way and it takes time to change that. He has learnt now to eat slowly and small frequent meals and is on regular

Hospital team have been fantastic surgeons Dietian and specialist nurses. If ever he has a problem can call team and they will see him.

Hope you are well supported too and always use the people that are available.

Remember be patient with your recovery slow and steady and you will get there
