Ulcers: Hi has anyone had a ulcer on... - Oesophageal & Gas...
Ulcers
I know people who have had them, and they normally clear up after taking a course of acid reducing medication. With acid reflux, one has the one issue of the effect of it in the mouth, throat and oesophagus; but the other side of it is the underlying cause of the reflux and why it is occurring. Sometimes reflux can be caused by pressure from the stomach (eg women in pregnancy).
The ulcer may well have been the original cause, and if you are still having reflux problems, it is not clear as to whether there has been any recurrence of the ulcers. So I think you were right to ask for another endoscopy, assuming that there has been a reasonable interval after the last one, and I think that you should repeat your request (or even asking for an NHS second opinion). And to ask for advice on how to reduce the reflux if there is not a specific cause, because long term exposure to reflux is not good health-wise.
I had one when they found I had an Hiatus Hernia.Usually a month to six weeks on Omeprozole gives it time to heal;but then you have to find out what caused it in the first place. Was it stress or drink or spicy food etc.I have stopped drinking wine and strong stuff like whiskyjust have the odd cider or gin with blackcurrent,no spicy or hot food and after a meal I chew gum which produces saliva and this when swallowed neutralises the acid.I have been Ill for 3/12 years,on 20 to 40 mgs of antacids all that time, allways feeling nauseas and breathless.6 months ago I decided to slowly cut back on the omeprazole after speaking to the specialist,He said everyone is different and to find the right dose for me by doing this.I started by giving up the drink and spicy food and then cut back on the antacids, after the last 6 months I am now off all antacids and now after 4 years finally feeling more like my old self.Hope you can sort out you problem,I,m afraid like most things its trial and error.Good luck.
