It could be an anti-psychotic. They can be used for OCD patients who are not psychotic. Low doses boost the effects of antidepressants like paroxetine.

I have been on sertraline for quite a few years, and my psychiatrist offered me an anti-psychotic called sulpiride. It didn't have much effect on my mental health, but it did make me put on two and a half stone in weight! I came off it, not wanting to put any more on!

However, as a patient in Springfield Hospital being treated for OCD I was offered another anti-psychotic, aripiprazole. I hesitated for quite a while in case I put on weight with it. But I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did, as it has helped and I have not put on weight with it.

So if you are offered sulpiride, I'd say no. But if it is aripiprazole, give it a go. I found it gave me back something of my old self. I felt as if colours had regained their brightness. It's only a low dose of 5 mg a day.

I started taking sertraline about 13 years ago. Before then I took an older antidepressant called clomipramine which was effective but made me constantly drowsy. I started on 200 mg of sertraline daily, and this was put up to 300 mg daily when I was in Springfield Hospital being treated for OCD in 2015.

Often big doses are needed for OCD. The 50 mg that you are taking sounds like a very low dose to me,but I'm not a prescriber! Doses of up to 400 mg are occasionally prescribed, but GPs and most psychiatrists are limited to prescribing up to 200 mg. Only a few psychiatrists are allowed to prescribe more than that.
