Cortisone side effects. Help!

A week ago I had cortisone injections to both ring finger PIP joints. Within 24 hours I experienced severe facial flushing and feeling generally unwell, this continued throughout the following day, with hot flushes washing over me. Two nights later I started to feel very anxious. I awoke in the night drenched in sweat and feeling shaky and hungry with a headache. Looking on line it would appear that the shots have messed with my sugar levels. It doesn't happen every night, but still continues to be an issue. It seems I'm having hypos. Looking back to my previous injections in March this year I realise that it happened then although to a lesser degree. I also use steroid inhalers and nasal spray. Has anyone else had similar problems/side effects? I'm thinking perhaps I've had a build up of cortisone in my body and the shots put me over and into some form of prediabetic state. I am also on a thiazide diuretic, which can cause problems with glucose intolerance.

Any answers or suggestions appreciated.

Hi, my friend had her hip injected last month and her face looked very hot and red. She also felt hot too. She was told this was a normal reaction. It last almost 2 weeks I think. She's due to have the other hip injected. She not too sure she want go through the effects again. I have to say. At one point she looked like she had severe sun burn.

Last year I had around of cortisone injections in my hips, I felt hot for a few days and the location of the injections was very sore for weeks but the actual cortisone never lasted long enough.

Yes I’ve encountered a similar reaction from cort shots. I had excellent success with them for knees and toes but in my past post here I mentioned how it ate the bone. Made knee replacement a bear to complete and rehab took 10 months of serious PT work. I would not consider another shot for my other knee. Just not worth the trouble of bone loss. You however may not experience the bone loss problem. Best of luck.

I refuse cortisone injections they make me retain water and don't really help me and they affect my thyroid test.
