Knee pain

Hi, am new here..

I have some moderate pain in my knees, right knee seems worse than the left knee, which is not bad walking around the house but worse when out walking,to be expected at age 64 I suppose, pain is also evident in the fingers over the the last year or so, which was noticed after lifting a heavy object with fingers..

Anyway, has anyone had good results taking a glucosamine supplement for relief? Is there any preference between glucosamine with chondroitin to glucosamine on its own? Would like to keep on with my running..Thanks

You sound similar to me. I had Xrays on both knees after one started "clicking" and unfortunately cartlidge was clearly worn away and OA diagnosed. I also have a bit in fingers but keep them moving and they're OK when "warmed up".

So far mine's only painful when I've been sitting and go to stand up plus sometimes on stairs. I can still walk and swim plus do pilates (mostly). Running puts more pressure on the joints and may be a problem - cycling is supposed to be better (I don't do either!). I aim for walking 7.5km daily average - mostly on the flat.

I'm trying glucosamine sulphate with chondroitin plus I also take collagen .... too early to tell if has any effect but I decided it was worth a try! ANYTHING's worth a try!!

It's worth scrolling down the posts here as there's some good stuff e.g. about exercises

Good luck!

Hello, bit of an old post, but how are your knees now after being on Glucosamine & Chondroitin supplement? If you stayed on them all this time an improvement should be showing.. I've been on them for around 2 months so early days for me, saying that, knees don't feel too bad if a bit stiff and achey sometimes, so am hopeful for the coming months, I will give it a year anyway..

Hi Davelinks, from my reading in Arthritis Australia website: Glucosamine is a building block of cartilage which I presume helps build up the cartilage and Chondroitin draws water and nutrient into the cartilage keeping it spongy and healthy. I have had great results taking it after 3 weeks. I do physical work and helps me a lot and joints much less pain. However I would not be in a good state without MTX and Hydroxy and folic acid tablets.

Hello, i was taking both for over 2yrs untill my doctor told me it was proven to have no beneficial use and was wasting my time and money in buying it. It didn't reduce the pain or any help me in any way and ended up having injections in both knees with excellent results that lasted for about 6 months. I think yout running days are over as doing so will rapidly wear your joints away unless you are able to have knee replacements.
