do I have to take methotrexate tablets as a single dose together on the same day
Basically, yes. Though I think some people split the dose into two helpings but still take them both on the same day, to reduce nausea. But talk to a doctor before you try that.
Don't take them on an empty stomach, and often people take them at night so that they are less likely to be affected by side effects of nausea/fatigue.
Also if they have put you on folic acid, Make SURE you do not take one on the day you take the MTX, I personally take my tablets all at once and at night, so I sleep through the majority of the start of the side effects of nausea or vomiting, and I get headaches sometimes as well, these should become less as you continue to take them, but each time my dose is increased, I do have the side effects again, Your body will let you know, Also, I would have thought the pharmacy would had put the directions on the label, Mine does say take all (however many tabs you are on) all at Once
Hope this Helps

i always took mtx 8 tabs in one go on a monday.thank god i never felt sick and went on about my day.but i would recomend taking them after food.hope they serve u well
One of the patient information leaflets I had for MTX said you could spilt the dose as much as you like over 12 hours only. Always best to check with your doc tho'. Polly.
My consultant said that splitting dose within one day was an option but sometimes reduced the effectiveness of the MTX. You must ask you doc if you want to split them but normally they are taken in one go. I used to take mine (I now inject) straight after or with food at evening mealtime. Good luck. Tilda x
Check with your Reumy, but mine told me to split my dose 50-50 on Wed & Sat after I had to come off it for a few weeks due to other health problems. This worked for me & I am now happily back to 20mgs once a week.
Hi pmcmanus3000
As you can see this does seem to vary a little between individuals but, as others have mentioned, you would need to speak to your rheumatology team for advice first if you are considering splitting your dose.
