Hi Tracey

I took mtx twice and the sickness, dizziness, migraine, any my stomach was dreadful and my consultant told me to stop taking it as my body does not like it! That was 3 weeks ago and I'm still being sick! I went to my GP last week and he prescribed Stemetil which has helped massively with the symptoms. May be you could give that a try?

Hi topcat

I take 5mgs 6days then on the day of metho no folic acid.

I also take anti sickness tablets, you doctor can prescribe these, lots of different ones on the market.

Worth a try and good luck.

I also take my metho before bed, so that it doesn't have the same sick effect on me.

Hi I'm on both these drugs too and despite them working well on my joints I have struggled all summer with horrible sickness. But it's got much better again now I've dropped down a dose of MTX to 15mg and also been changed by pharmacist to Quinoric rather than Plaquenil.

I used Buccastem anti-nausea tablets which are great but could only dissolve one at night as they made me go very woozy. Now I'm feeling fit and well back down at 15mg and 400 of Hydroxy. If the RA decides to come back then my rheumy says I'm to switch from pills to injectable metnotrexate - and I'm told by many that this gets around the nausea question to a large degree. Worth a thought for you perhaps? Tilda x

Hi, i take both of these drugs, i started the plaquenil 6 years ago and it made me feel sick although i smoked at the time, i then stopped smoking and the sickness stopped i also found that eating before i took the tablets helped. good luck. x

Swallow them both with a glass of milk instead of water - this works really well for me - and try switching from Plaquenil to the generic, Quinoric or if you are on those try the other way round. I find the milk really helps and it does suggest this on the instructions too. TTx

Hi Topcat

Some good tips for you on here. If the nausea is still bad then sometimes switching to injectable MTX can help, as it goes directly into your bloodstream rather than through your digestive system. You could ask your rheumatologist or specialist nurse about this if none of the above suggestions work for you.

Kind regards

Victoria
