hiya going to Turkey in Sept does anyone recommend a good travelinssurance ive had RA for 20years
Hi Catz
We have recently returned from a med cruise, including Turkey, and took out travel insurance with Columbus (link below-copy and paste into browser), who provide cover for people with pre-existing conditions, like RA, at very reasonable cost. With my RA, and my husband's cardiac arrythmia, joint cover for 2 weeks was around £65, if I remember right.
Hope this helps, and have a brilliant holiday!

Where a bouts are you going Catz? I'm off to Turkey in September, too. love it there, beautiful place and wonderful people ........oh and the heat does wonders for your RA! I always just take out normal insurance as there isn't really anything life threatening with RA that you might need a hospital for ( that's how I look at it) and take enough MEDS/ pain killers to keep me going, maybe I should go for more extensive insurance, you've got me thinking now! X
I went for a medical history disregard policy as my joints quite stable and have had 3 replacement finger joints so policy quite expensive
I am off to Corfu soon. I go there every year. Like bevlin I just take out a normal travel insurance, the heat does my joints good and if you take enough tablets etc with you I don't see any problems with any special medical insurances, but I am quite luck because the RA hasn't stopped me from doing any physical activity so I am reasonably fit when not achy and tired a lot .
Hi munchkin, I don't want to alarm you but if you don't declare ANY medical condition when you apply for Travel Insurance & you have to claim for another condition - the insurer is likely to deny your claim. On their application form they ask for details of any pre-existing conditions. The medics overseas will declare it on their report. A few pounds spent on insurance now could save you lots of pounds on treatment overseas. I even have bunions on my pre-existing conditions.!!!
I've always used Insure and Go or Travelability
Staysure are fairly good for travel insurance with medical issues, and they offer you the option to declare illnesses, but discount them from your policy. Probably not ideal to discount for RA, but if you have things that you never need treatment for, you can still declare them so that you don't find your policy invalid!
Have a lovely holiday!

These seem to be the conditions that Staysure place on it:
Arthritis (Juvenile, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid or Psoriatic Arthritis, Reiter’s Syndrome, Rheumatism):
There must have been NO hospital admissions within the last 12 months.
Must have had NO back/spine problems.
No more than 2 medications.
No mobility aids (other than walking stick or frame).
There must have been NO dislocations of any joint replacements.
Must NOT be awaiting surgery.
Must have NO lung problems.
I'm not sure if you pay an additional charge if you don't meet the criteria, or if they just won't insure you, but it's worth a look!
