Can I go back to my profession?

This is jhansi rani,52.I worked as primary teacher for 14 years,but discontinued due to acute problem of knees.Butnow I underwent total knee replacement 5 years back.Now I feel that I can go out for a job of teacher.Can I?

Go for it, I only work part time now having had RD for over 14 years. Some days I find it hard to go in but without the company and the need to get out I would go mad indoors. Again go for it just because we have RA we came be a great asset to the work force, like I'm sure you will be.

Hi would deffinatly go back, staying in work has helped keep me sane, even if I have had months and months off at a time at least I know I plan to go back so it keeps me going.

I think in fairness to yourself and your employer you have to consider all aspects with this disease. Yes, your knee is now fixed but you still have RA and possible ongoing problems.

Will you be able to cope with the hours, the time spent on your feet in front of a class, every day dealings with young children and other members of staff? Lots to consider, and that's just a start,but if you feel your RA is well controlled and you don't suffer from fatigue and regular flares then go for it!

Only you know your capabilities and whether you now feel able to cope with the demands of this type of work. I wish you well for the future

There are lots to consider here with your profession, I know your desperate to get back to work but I think it should be a steady progression to see how you get on. Like Lyn said you still have RA and you have to take that into all your plans and think about how it will affect you. Perhaps going back part time first to see how you get on and how you feel as regards your pain and joints etc.

This is such a personal thing. It alll depend on how the RA affects you. I have had awful probs with fatigue, but am now feeling better, but who knows whether or if it will come back? It's a tricky one, only you can tell how well you feel and how much stress you can take before it affects you. Good Luck
