yeah try heat or cold pads. Heat is usually better for neck/shoulder areas.

I find the easiest way is to fill a hot water bottle with hand hot water, wrap it in a towel and rest your neck on it.

Hope it helps.

do you have a neck brace and a soft neck collar to sleep in? Do you have a special pillow? Both these help me.:-))

I was suffering terribly and around 6 weeks ago I went to a Chinese medicine man...he gave me acupuncture, massage and cup therapy...it was just about tolerable but it instantly helped relieve the pins and needles I was getting down my right arm and into my finger and thumb...He also gave me pills called Xioa Huo Luo Wan...it seems to have helped me....What meds are you taking specifically for the neck pain...

thanku for replying, doc just gave me painkillers, i have being to to see a chinese man and i had acupuncture, it worked for a while but soon wore off, i do neck exercises also

Yes there is something else you can do apart from heated pillows etc. You should go to a physio and he/she will guide you through some basic neck exercises. This is what I started doing some time ago when I found that I had a trapped nerve in my neck plus stiffness as a result of progressing arthritis. I have gained more movement in my neck plus the acute pain from the trapped nerve is less than it was some months ago. Sure I take my meds when its flaring up but we have to continue doing what is necessary to fight this awful pain.
