etanercept
Hi, I have been on MTX for about 18 months and for the last 4 months have felt constantly sick and yucky (on 20mg/week). My consultant changed me to the injections 3 weeks ago (after a couple of weeks' break) and I don't have any nausea at all, it is wonderful! Maybe you could change as well. Injecting yourself is really easy - the thought of it is much worse than the actual doing it. Hope you can sort something out.
Virge
Hi I had Methotrexate but only felt sick after the dose was increased. Firstly they prescribed additional folic acid for me. But hen as the sickness continued they changed me to injections. Unfortunately and apparantely not very common I felt sick and was put onto Sulphasalazine with no side effects for me. The injections agreeing with Virge were easy to do.Also apparantly the sickness clears up after a short while for most people. Hope it clears up soon () Axx
thank you virge and allanah. I am 0doing injections. the problem is I cant have anti inflammatories as I only have one kidney. etanercept is great but I should be grateful as there are people worse off than me.
Have you tried changing the time of day you inject it? If not I think there are anti-sickness stuff that you can be given (tho' I do hate taking more pills to counter-act the side effects of the first lot).
My doctor told me to take extra folic acid to combat sickness while taking MXT.I am not suggesting you do this but ask your GP. '
Hi
Don't want to add yet more medications but if the MTX is working well you could ask your GP about an anti-emetic (anti sickness) treatment but this may not be an option due to your kidneys. You don't mention your folic acid as perhaps this could be increased or spraed out over several days (not the day you have your MTX) or you might be able to limit some of the nausea by changing the time when you have your meds? Talk to your rheumatology nurse to see what help she can offer!
Hope the symptoms soon start to subside.
Best wishes
Lorraine
