My mom is suffering from RA for past 20 years . She is 70 and her RA doctor prescribes only HCQS. She is also on steroids. Usually she has severe pain only in Winter but recently she is having pain all through the year and difficulty in walking . She is not able to walk more than 50m. Please let me know if there is any other medicines/tablets/injections/therapies which can help her to walk and experience lesser pain. She is very depressed as she is not able to walk. Please suggest any other medicines so that I can check with her doctor to prescribe.

There are a good few are you in the UK and spoken to her Rhuematologist? If not then I’m sorry but don’t know but suggest you look up the UK website NRAS which has a directory of medications which may help.
My mom is in India and I am going to consult with her doctor, if alternate medicine/injections can be given to improve her condition.
There are many but it’s not that straightforward. Take a look at the NRAS booklet on medications. Free on their website.
It is very doubtful a doctor in India will discuss your mother’s medication with you. Is there not another relative out there who could actually go to the doctor with her??
Thank you for the response. Yes. She went with my brother. She explained the doctor about her pain and asked for alternate medicines/injections available but they again prescribed the same. She has an appointment in few weeks and I am planning to discuss with the doctor about the possibilities as her mobility is 90% affected and not able to see her in so much of pain
There are many medications for RA however, it’s very difficult to know which is most suitable and I have no idea which ones are available in India. NRAS is a UK based charity so this information booklet is talking about the medications available in the UK but hopefully it will give you an idea of the types of medications which may be available and how they help. nras.org.uk/product/medicin...
Take a trip to the rheumatologist with your Mum…..& explain the problem..
We can only say what suits us….we cannot recommend medication for others. Has your Mum told her rheumy team about the troubles she has?
If you don,t tell…..her team will presume she is doing fine. Iknow it isn,t easy to get appointments but if you phone the rheumy on behalf of your Mum, they might fit her in a bit faster.
Good Luck..I hope you get some help.
you didn’t say in this post that your mother was in India!
