I have been having my hair coloured for at least 10 years, after one of the 5 year olds I taught asked me if I was very, very old because my hair was going grey! I have taken methotrexate all this time!

I've been on methotrexate for 15 years and have had my hair coloured regularly all that time. I've never had any problems.

Do you wash your hair every other day does your hair ever feel lifeless and greasy

I've been fortunate to have thick hair - ie lots of it . It's never been greasy, and I've never had to wash it more than twice a week. It's also cut short and layered, which helps. However , I noticed over the last year it has become a bit thinner and lifeless (although my hairdresser says otherwise), which I'm attributing to age ( I'm nearly 68) and possibly being on a higher dose of betablockers.

I’ve never stopped my hair colour whilst on Mtx or any RA med but I don’t have a full head of permanent colour as mine are fine spatula highlights. It’s still some peroxide in the mix, although mine aren’t white blonde - they’re a trio of golds! 😁 (Think they’re L’Oréal Majimix.) If you’re in the early stages of Mtx and your hair is thinning a lot then maybe have a word with your rheumy nurse.

My hair is thin anyway but haven’t had any fallen out

Some people on Mtx find it can shed a little of thin out/feel limp/lacklustre at first.

Oh this is one of the first questions I asked! Been on mtx for 9 months and use permanent colour every 2 months or so. I always do a skin test 48hrs before. Never been a problem.

Looking and feeling confident is so important when sometimes our health seems it has all the control.

I hope so! I've had mine coloured every 6 weeks and all seems fine!

Hello,I have had all over colour and roots done every 4-6 weeks on methotrxate and in combination of other drugs. No problems at all. However, as is good practice, make sure you skin test 48 hours prior with any new colour. My skin and scalp has become very oily on Rinvoc and I'm having to wash it every other day. My hair is thinner, but that could be perimenopause.

Best wishes

I have almost black hair and it’s now dirty blonde so coloured with highlights, bleach etc…never had an issue. I wash my hair intermittently though and it seems the longer I leave it the better the condition
