Leflunomide wash out

Hi there. Hope everyone's christmas preparations are going to plan (and you are all more organised than I am!!).

It was decided a couple of weeks ago that due to ongoing stomach and bowel problems and weight loss I should pause taking Leflunomide.

Because I'm still having GI issues I'm now to have a 'wash out' (Colestramine). It's a powder you mix with water or similar. I'm to take it three times a day for 11 days.

I haven't started taking it yet, saving that treat until tomorrow. I just wondered if anyone else has taken this and what it's like. I'm hoping it doesn't taste too bad or have nasty side effects.

Thanks - Seb

What does it do clear the meds out of system

Yes, apparently. It has a long half life so if it is causing a problem it can persist long after the drug has been stopped. So I've been told....i sound like I know what I'm talking about but I don't!

I didn’t do a washout but I just did the rollercoaster ride til it was out of my system that took 3 months.

Hope you're coping with the washing out Seb. Shame the Lef didn't work out. I'll be interested to know what they give you next. I am stopping the Methotrexate because of hairloss and they are starting me on Sulfasalasine. Not looking forward to it but going with the flow...

Thanks. The wash out is a bit unpleasant. It doesn't totally disolve, and tastes foul so its a bit yuck to drink. Makes me retch. Another 5 days to go.I was on sulphur when i was first diagnosed. It didnt work for me but so far had the least unpleasant side effects. I think it turned my pee bright orange, but that was it. Hoping it works for you.

Hope you have a fab christmas. Seb.
