Re starting metratrexate and Biologic after been on Antibiotics!

Hi

So I’ve been on antibiotics for a week due to a sinus infection I stopped my metratrexate and my Biologic..I have now finished my course and had my last tablet yesterday!im wondering when I can restart both my drugs as I’m noticing that I haven’t had them in over 2wks and feeling pain now.

Could you inform me please as I’m sure most of you would have been in my situation!

My rheumatologist always says to wait 48hrs after completing antibiotics, to ensure infection is clear, and restart then if no issues. You should really check with your rheumatologist though

There is no 'right' way. You will have lots of responses depending on indiciual circumstances.

If you flare easily with lack of treatment then the sooner you restart the better!

Some people can wait a week or two before restarting, others find they are already flaring after stopping while on the antibiotics.

It's a balance between reducing your immune response to fight off the infection and reducing the immune response to keep your auto-immune condition under control.
