I have been on methotrexate for five weeks and today I took the first tablet of sulfasalazine 500. After about 6 hours my neck started to hurt and I couldn't turn my head. Has anyone had neck and shoulder pain like this????
methotrexate with sulfasalazine: I have been on... - NRAS
methotrexate with sulfasalazine
I have had that neck pain and unable to turn head but prior to taking medication check it out with medics
I didn't have an instant reaction like that, so it might be something that was already brewing, but I did have an adverse reaction to sulfasalazine. After a few weeks I was feeling worse not better, including with pain and general wellbeing, and was covered with a bright red rash. I stopped immediately and it now has it in my records that I have a sensitivity to it.
we all react differently to drugs, so just keep an eye on things. It might be that the neck is something different.
I'm sorry to hear you had a bad reaction. I didn't have that. It did however cause me great nausea, and so I changed to a coated version. Unfortunately, after some time it was found not to be effective enough for me, but I know it suits some more than others. If it is intolerant for you readdress it with your rheumatologist. You know your body, and if it doesn't suit, let them know. I hope you get sorted. x
It may be a reaction to the new medication or it may just be one of the many things that pop up with RA.Until my methotrexate kicked in, I suffered from a stiff neck.
Caused me big problems driving on a single track road in the Highlands when I had to reverse for 500 yards.
