When I am an old woman ...

... I shall wear purple, with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me!

I'm off to the hearing aid centre on Monday to be measured up for a hearing aid (my otosclerosis means that I have a permanent ocean in my right ear!), and my joints ache, so I walk like Mrs. Overall! I think this qualifies me as an old woman, so I intend to take full advantage!

I think I might miss out learning to spit, though ...

According to Loret they're Red Hat clubs round her way, esepcially for those who with to wear the purple dress with it! Px

Oh yeah, there are. Many. I just never felt like I fit in. It's these older ladies pretending to have so much money they need to spend it on travelling, cruises, tea parties, where of course they all wear their purple dresses, red boas, red hat, earrings made to look like red hats, embedded with rubbies or garnets, :) need I go on!! Then, of course, there are the red shoes!

I'm sure they are nice ladies, just too bored. I intend to never get that bored!!

Next time they have their picture in the local paper I will copy it and post it here. It is officially called The Red Hat Society. ta-ta, for now! L.xx :P

I've seen a group of Red Hat ladies in Lincoln a couple of times, usually at concerts or plays. They seem like a fun bunch of ladies. They have been quite lively when I've seen them-cheering & laughing & talking, etc.

The younger women wear pink hats until they are 'old' enough, but I don't know the age they can change to red.

Love that poem, by Jenny Joseph.

Please don't eat 3 pounds of sausages all in one go.

I do actually get the urge to drag my stick along the railings sometimes!

Hope the hearing aid helps to quieten the ocean!

Oh, now I like the sound of this! :D Well, I suppose we don't all need to be bored to be Red Hat ladies - I'll probably give the sausages a miss, Phoebe, but sticks down railings, and hoarding things, and sitting on pavements; these are things I can do! And wouldn't we all have more fun if we could be just a little rebellious?

Have they discussed surgery for your otosclerosis? I have the same condition and wore hearing aids in both ears. Had surgery in the right ear 20 years ago which improved things but wasn't 100% successful so I still had to wear a hearing aid and was put off going surgery for the left ear. I took the plunge and had the surgery for the left ear in January of this year and so far so good, it takes 3 months to settle down but it looks promising and certainly my hearing has improved. As usual there can be side effects initially from the surgery - vomitting, dizziness etc but this last time I didn't have any! The hearing aids these days are fantastic, are you having digital? Hi Wendy,

In all honesty, I'm not sure what my hearing aid will be! The audiologist said mine would be slightly larger than some of the newer models, as I needed the low frequency sounds enhanced, rather than high frequency. The ENT consultant advised against surgery, simply because I currently have one fully functional ear, which - to some extent - makes up for the deficit in the affected ear. I figure, if the surgeon thinks I'd be better off without surgery, he's probably right for the time being, so I'll keep on blaming my 'deaf ear' and missing phone calls at work that I probably didn't want to take in the first place!

Glad to hear your second lot of surgery has given you a better result, though - are you happy with it?
