hoping someone can answer my question so yesterday I had an appointment with my consultant! I’m currently having a flur up so the consultant prescribed steroid tablets to bring down the inflammation!a little while after taking the tablets I felt hot then cold and a slight sore throat but thought it maybe side effects of the steroids but as the night went on I didn’t feel good so I did a covid test and it was positive!!my question is has anyone else on hear had covid on taken 4 Steroid tablets?am I supposed to not continue with the steroids until I’m negative for covid?can’t believe I’ve got covid again I must have had it around 6 time now!!feeling not to good with it this time though last time I had it I was up and ok but this time I feel unwell 🤒
Any advice or sharing your own experiences would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Covid has an incubation period of 3-5 days, so it will just be coincidental that you’ve come down with symptoms. I’m on steroids for life, and know of others similar, who’ve continued their steroids. It depends how long you’ve been on them, as to whether you can stop suddenly. They may actually ease some of your symptoms from covid. You could ring 111 and get advice, seeing as it’s Sunday..
Sorry to hear you’ve had Covid again and are feeling rough. I hope you feel better soon and that the steroids help.
Any autoimmune condition makes you more susceptible to serious illness with Covid and the meds we have to take further increase the risk .
Hopefully you won’t need to stay on the steroids too long after you recover as they also increase the risk of more serious illness should you get Covid again. Please try to avoid further Covid infections if you can!
I have had Covid 4 times now, 3 times with treatment. I have severe asthma and seem to always be out on steroids now when I get Covid as I seem to end up with either a chest infection or pneumonia every time. I am now steroid dependent and can’t come off them for the time being as I now have adrenal insufficiency. I am waiting to see an endocrinologist . I would not worry about taking the steroids for now, they may help your symptoms as others have said. If you are concerned I would discuss it with your Rheumy or GP. They should be the people to guide you, I wish you well,
My understanding is that Steroids are anti-inflammatory but not immunosuppressive. On this basis, I would continue. For vaccinations, I was told to continue steroids but suspend Methotrexate. I have no medical expertise, please note.
Steroids are immunosuppressive, quite severely so depending upon the dosage taken. Usually a daily dose of 10 mgs and over is regarded as causing major immunosuppression.
