Sulphazyne : I have currently been started on... - NRAS
Sulphazyne
I've been lucky in that Sulphasalzine suits me and I have no side effects but there have been a couple of threads about similar problems recently. I've pasted the links below - hope that they work!

I was anxious and depressed. Plus, I got sores on my face. Came off and voila…. All better.
I was on sulphasalazine and also experienced mood swings and brain fog. Currently on a trial of cutting out different meds to identify which work for me. After stopping sulpha my mood swings are gone and I can think a lot clearer now - so for some it works but definitely not for me.
I had the same side effects. I stuck with it to see if they would pass as I became used to it. After three weeks, I stopped taking Sulphasazine, and the unwanted symptoms faded after a few more weeks. Do not put up with debilitating side effects. Give a drug a fair trial period, but if they continue, stop and inform your RA team.
Yes I had the same side effects, low mood and brain fog, along with headaches and palpitations. I stopped them after 4 weeks and it took about 10 days before I felt like myself. I could put up with some side effects but not the low mood and braing fog, it made work very difficult!
I know, so did I, it's a horrible feeling isn't it. Rheum nurses said tablets would be out of my system in 5 days but I didn't start feeling completely better until after 10 days. Someone said in another thread that your system has to adjust, I thought that made sense! Hope you're feeling better soon.
Thank you did you get put on another dmard xx
I have been taking Hydroxychloroquine for 3 years with no side effects. I originally had palindromic rheumatism but consultant said this has now turned into RA, which I know it can do, had a bad flare up so they put me on sulfasalazine alongside the hydroxychloroquine. I'm just on the hydroxychloroquine at the moment but I see consultant next week to see what next step is.
Hiya ScottishOceanlover, welcome. My mood really took a dive on sulfasalazine. I stayed on it for longer than I should have, long story but nobody would take responsibility whilst my Rheumy was on leave. My suggestion is you put your cards on the table & be sure your Rheumy understands how it's affecting you. There are a few other DMARDs you can try so don't worry.
