Just read this, looks interesting, but probably some time away before it becomes a treatment.
Some interesting new developments ……. : Just read... - NRAS
Some interesting new developments …….
That sounds a very promising development. It helps give us hope at the very least. I love the way Rheumatoid disease has been named specifically rather than the usual lumping it in as simply arthritis. Thank you for posting this.
Sadly 90% of phase 1 trials for new drugs fail, and this is still at the lab stage using mice so yet has to make it to clinical trials. So at least 10 years, and only small probability of success. Good that people are continuing to seek solution, but I don’t get too excited now.
Very interesting. It might not be around for some of us but what hope for younger people. It's great to hear that research is going on in the background all the time.
Hope for the future always welcome. Thanks.
Yes, I remember an article about an implant that reduced pain & inflammation. I think they were working on it in The Netherlands. That was at least 10 years ago & I have never seen anything about it since.
Before everyone gets too excited, from the actual paper:
"The therapy is shown to successfully treat and prevent rheumatoid arthritis by relieving the main symptoms and also by restoring the immune system through the induction of regulatory T cells in A MOUSE MODEL of collagen-induced arthritis." (my emphasis)
Humans are not large hairless tailless mice. Many of these things don't translate to humans. So as others have said if this even works in humans and there is no guarantee that it will, it will be many years off. On average bench to bedside takes 17 years.
Yes, this will take some time to be human trialled, but at least there is research going on and targeted at RA more specifically instead of generic tagged arthritis in general. When I read nanotechnology, it sounds like something out of ‘Star Trek’ - hope we are not all going to ‘be asimulated’ ( Trekkie fan humour, ha ha)!!!!!?
Thanks for that Braecoon, very interesting. I can remember going back about 10 yrs or so, my friends daughter was training to be a dr & she told me it was only a few yrs away that biologics will be in a tablet form, I believe it was Newcastle Teaching Hospital was given a vast lump of funding to help with the trials etc, making biologics far more cheaper as it’s the syringes, cold fridges etc that bump the cost!! She wasn’t wrong as it’s about 6 yrs or so that JAkS became mainstream available. So who knows how far off they are 🤞. Thanks again
