Does anyone take methotrexate and then on the 3rd or 4th day get really bad stomach pains and end up running to the toilet all day for a couple of days.
Would you advise that I tell my rhummy nurse or see if it stops( only on my 7th week and a really low dose as I am on biologics as well
Thank you for reading x

We all do at times, which is why this is a good place to discuss with others going through the same anxieties. Take care and hopefully we'll get some consistent warm weather to enjoy. xx
I did when on oral MX . It didn’t happen on injected MX which I took for 10 years , although gradually I had increasing abdominal discomfort and eventually had to stop MX altogether.
I had never managed to tolerate a dose higher than 17.5 mg
Yes! I am so glad you asked this because I found this started with me four months into methotrexate. It has got worse with every injection. yes, I am on Methojet because of previous stomach and digestive problems on etoricoxib and sulphasalazine. And yes, it starts 4 days after injection with me too.
It might settle for you, but for me I thought at 12 weeks that methotrexate was going to work, and it has made my joint pain and swelling better, but it now seems to be going the other way with a flare and worse side effects. So yes, tell the rheumy nurse now, so that if things don't settle in the next few weeks they will have a record of it so they can try you on something else.
I used to be on MXT and had to stop because of constant nausea. I did tell my team which tried other ways of administering MXT but the same thing happened so they stopped prescribing and put me on Leflunomide which is much better.
Please don't suffer in silence tell your team asap. I hope you feel better soon, love and light.
Thank you so much, I seem to cope ok most of the time, but I’m sure I feel worse since I started on the methotrexate and I’m not seeing any benefit yet. So glad I posted on here, it really does make you realise some people do understand . Thank you x
hi methotrexate is well known for giving stomach problems. You can inject it instead of tablets. Which I do. It is better but still makes me feel sick for 2 days. I’d mention it to ur rheum team
I’ve been on Methotrexate since beginning of January, I take it on a Wednesday, and last Friday and now today, Saturday, I have experienced diarrhoea and being sick (most unusual for me to be sick). Tummy painful to the point of me feeling faint. Have had to spend the day indoors. I notice other replies referring to a rheumatology nurse or team…all I can say is, ‘if only’. No help is given here and the times I have left a message I don’t get a response. Thank Goodness for Health Unlocked x
Just wondering if you could ask your GP to contact your rheumatology department for you if you are getting no help from them. Hope you feel better soon.
