Blurred Vision

I have had blurry vision since my MRI a month ago. I do wear glasses, but , I just had my eyes examined before that. Got new glasses from my eye exam and could see perfectly. So, the only thing I can think of , my eyes are blurry STILL....after my MRI.

It’s bit odd isn’t it. I wouldn’t have thought an MRI could cause blurred vision although when I had an MRI back in the 1989s I noticed my vision was blurred after looking at the roof of the machine I was in. That didn’t last for long, think it was only because I had been focussing on the cream wall of the machine - so close for so long.

Do you have dry eyes, that would blur your vision? Do you spend a lot of time on a computer or read for long periods of time? Also some drugs can cause blurred vision - I was given pregabalin a couple of years ago and blurred vision was one of the reasons I stopped it, after that I was given a trial of gabapentin with the same result. Found the same when I was given alendronic acid a couple of years ago as well.

If it turns out that the blurting is caused by dry eyes, I’ve found this stuff makes a huge difference to the dryness of my eyes EkopuraVegan Omega 3 - Algae Oil, 90 Small Capsules (250mg DHA/Capsule), 3 Month Supply - Sustainable Alternative to Fish OilVegan Omega 3 - Algae Oil, 90 Small Capsules (250m) that and regular use of preservative free dry eye drops - HycoSanDan - the red bottle is good but your optician should be able to get you sorted out.

On the other hand it would be worth going back to your optician and explaining the problem - just in case it is the glasses.

I would go back to your optician and get your eyes checked to be safe. They’d also know if it’s possible an mri can do that. It’s never happened to me. 🤞🏻 it clears up,

I have had several mri scans but always wear an eye mask as I am very claustrophobic. I would suggest that it is more likely to be your glasses. Opticians do make mistakes like the rest of us. My brother's glasses were made using someone else's prescription and they were adamant that that couldn't happen. He couldn't see out of them properly and got very bad headaches. He went for a second opinion to another Optician and sure enough they were not his prescription. He got a refund (no apology) and got new ones from the new Optician. Perfect.

I would speak to whoever referred you for the MRI.I had two MRIs last week…each lasted about 45 minutes & I had no-side effects at all.I have had quite a few MRI’s…including on my brain  (yes folks I do still have one of those) and I have never noticed any after effects.

I can't think of any mechanism by which an MRI could cause that.

It's always very tempting to assume when two things occured close together that one caused the other - but it could just be co-incidence.

The important thing is to find out what's causing the blurred vision.

I get blurry eyes due to very dry eyes. Have you been checked for this at opticians? I have to put drops in 6 times a day and a gel at night. I’d get checked back at opticians x

Can you give the names of the gel and drops please

this is what GP prescribed for me. Hydramed drops ( use 6 times a day) and Xalin 10g gel at night . I also use an eye mask that is warmed in microwave which I got from opticians. If your on hydroxy tabs hospital should be checking eyes yearly x

Oh, that's not really cool, isn't it? I don't know why you'd still have blurry vision after the MRI. Can't tell what is causing blurry vision to you. What's the update now? Did you consult with your eye doctor or your optician? I don't remember anyone telling me blurry visions occurred after the MRI. Last week someone I know had LASIK surgery and after the surgery, she told me she had blurry vision and dry eyes for a while, but you know that is expected. LASIK surgery ( clearviewinstitute.com/ ) really helped her. Now she no longer needs to wear glasses.
