Hi just wandering if anyone else with RA suffers with blurred vision. Iv only recently been diagnosed with RA. But for last 6 weeks have been suffering with my right eye only. It feels like I have a film across it. Would be grateful for any input

Hi there, I’ve had an issue with blurriness in my right eye. I went to the optician and he said I have severe dry eyes. I use drops in my eyes everyday and the blurriness hasn't reoccurred since using the drops 2-3 times daily.
I get blurred eyes sometimes & also very sore eyes & pricking. I was eventually diagnosed with dry eyes which is yet another problem associated with RA. I have to go to the eye clinic for check ups every 6 months & meanwhile use an eye gel 4 times a day & eye drops up to 6 times daily. I have also been told that I have small cataracts growing in each eye which is probably a result of taking steroid tablets for a long time. I would say it is important for you to visit your doctor or optician asap as your eyes are so prescious.
Thank you for asking KittyJ. Yes the op went well & I am now all bound up & have to keep my shoulder & arm still for another week. It has not been as painful as I expected because people were telling me all sorts of horror stories about the pain. However it was a lot more painful before I had it done. Next week I will be having the dressings & sling off & start physio.
I know that dry eyes are a consequence of RA but mine seem to water a lot especially outside even if there is no wind. Although they water, can this also be dry eye?
It is very common to get watering of the eyes when they become dry - although this seems illogical! It's because the dry eye becomes irritated and then waters as a result of the irritation, especially when exposed to wind or other irritants.
It's annoying to get that film across the eye from the mucus production - I find it's worse for me in the summer, possibly from the extra irritation from pollen (I get hay fever too) or from heat drying the eye even more. Using the air conditioning in the car also causes more problems.
Hi Gailrossi sorry to hear you're having vision problems but I would go see an optician as soon as possible. R.A can cause eye problems but it's best to get it checked by an optician they are pretty good at picking up any eye problems. I recently went for a routine eye test and they found tears at the back of my eye. It has turned out to be a Sarcoidosis flare and I will be seen again next month. Hope things rectify asap.
